Flower phlox - unpretentious landscape decoration

Many flower growers-amateurs grow a flock at their summer cottage, but not everyone knows that this plant originated from wild species. It surprises with its appearance and botanical variety. This plant has been cultivated for a long time, but until now many of its varieties found in our gardens have been little studied.

The flower of the phlox grows well in a temperate, humid climate, these are ideal conditions for it. But he is unpretentious, and therefore able to withstand the severe climate and drought. The native phlox flowers (shown below) are mostly from Canada, from Alaska, from North America. But, despite this, they grow well in the middle zone of Russia.

It should be noted that phloxes are able to dwell in mountainous terrain, on rocks, at an altitude of up to 4000 m. Their appearance is largely related to the external environment. For example, if these are low-growing plants, then they are most suitable for a temperate climate. High phloxes prefer the sun.

They blossom, from spring or early summer to mid-August. Very rarely flowering begins in autumn. This feature is only a few varieties of phlox. As a rule, these are stunted plants, blooming with yellow and purple hats, with creeping, strongly branching stems and evergreen leaves. Phloxes are able to form low shrubs on which complex inflorescences of white, coral, lilac, crimson, lilac and blue hues are located. They can be either monophonic or with a colorful two-tone pattern. Some flowers look like compact, compact pads.

Phloxes are dwarfish, spread out, etc. All species can not be listed. Some grow mainly in forests, others near rivers, lowlands, wet meadows. There are also species that grow both on fertile soils and in dry sandstones. It is also surprising that the flower of a phlox can grow both on the sunny side and in the shade. However, it does not stop flowering. We will clarify that the best place to plant it depends on the species. Perennials are able to tolerate frosts, so they do not require the excavation of the rhizome for the winter.

As for reproduction, the flower of a phlox is not difficult to grow from seeds and lead it in a one-year culture. Seeding on seedlings is made in December, in extreme cases, in early January, as the germination of seeds is lost nearer to spring. Autumn sowing is possible in an open, slightly frozen ground. At home, phloxes from seeds are placed on the surface of the moistened substrate at a distance of not less than 6 centimeters, slightly sprinkling with humus mixed with garden soil in equal quantities. Crops are poured from the nebulizer and covered with a packet or glass. Seeds germinate in 8-10 days. Seedlings in spring are likewise planted at a distance of 5-6 centimeters on a flower bed. It should be borne in mind that with this method of propagation of phlox from seeds, the signs of grade are lost. Therefore, it is recommended to use it in the event that it is required to achieve a large mass of flowers that do not show signs of a certain grade.
