Error while executing server application: causes and methods of repair

Quite often, many users on the monitor screen when performing some operations for opening files may receive a message "Error while executing the server application". Let's try to consider several situations and understand what it is, and how to get rid of such misfortune.

What is an "application server error"?

Among all the situations that lead to the appearance of problems of this type, the most common problem is the reproduction of multimedia files. In this case, the most common error when running the server is when you try to view the video.

As you know, the standard Windows Media Player is far from ideal and does not always work correctly as a multimedia tool installed in the system by default. In addition, a situation of a different kind may arise. This can be associated, for example, with programs such as "1C", installation of MS Link Server 2013, etc. Only in this case the user receives a message such as "Error while executing the command".

For obvious reasons and because of the complexity of the work of the latest programs, we will not consider them, but we will dwell on the components responsible for the correct opening of multimedia files.

Viruses and System Restore

If the user receives a message that the server application has failed to run, the first thing to do is to run a computer system scan for viruses (some malicious programs can lead to such consequences).

If the test does not work even when using an independent portable antivirus with fresh databases, it's worthwhile to see when the error first appeared, then try to roll back the system to its original state using recovery from any pre-existing checkpoint. It may very well be that this approach will help (especially if you recently installed multimedia updates).

Problems with drivers, codecs and the DirectX platform

On the other hand, neither viruses, nor updates can have anything to do with it. If suddenly the system reports that an error of this type occurred during the operation, it is very likely that, for example, the video accelerator drivers need updating or the codecs and decoders used in some video file have a higher version than those installed on this computer.

As you can see, these components just need to be updated. For video cards, you can use the Task Manager, download the file with the latest version of the driver from the official website of the manufacturer manually or update it with the help of specialized utilities for automatic search and update.

The same applies to the package codec and decoders. Fortunately today to find the most recent distribution kit of the same package K-Lite Codec Pack on the Internet does not amount to labor. The only thing you need to pay attention to is a mandatory anti-virus scan, if it was not downloaded from an official source.

Often the problem, when an error occurs when running a server application, may be due to the presence of an outdated version of DirectX. There is nothing easier than to go to the official site of Microsoft Corporation, download from there the latest release of DirectX and reinstall all its components.

The simplest commands for troubleshooting

If the above methods do not help, and the error occurs when the server application runs again and again, you will have to use the command line. You can call it from the standard "Run" menu, by typing in the cmd field.

After you open a black window like the old DOS system, you need to enter two regsvr32 commands, jscript.dll and regsvr32 vbscript.dll, after each one by pressing the Enter key.

After that, you will need to reboot the system. True, in some cases this may not yield the desired result. Then you need to enter an additional command sfc / scannow. In theory, in combination with the two previous ones, it should save the user from further errors and malfunctions.

Problems with Windows Media Player

Now a few words about the "native" Windows player. As a rule, an error occurs when the server application is executed in it. And it does not even concern viewing streaming video online, and even the usual opening of some video file.

The simplest solution is to install any other player, well, say, VLC Media Player or something like that. If the desired file opens with such a player without problems, then the problem is really contained in the Windows Media Player. You can refuse it.

But if you are an adherent of this program and do not want to change your preferences in any way, you can apply another radical method. Not to mention updating the player, you'll have to access the installed Windows components.

To do this, you need to use the Programs and Components section in the Control Panel (in the old OS this is the installation and uninstallation section), where there is a special menu for enabling and disabling system components. In the list of installed software, we find Windows Media Player and remove the checkmark that stands in front of it. We reboot the system, then go back to the same section and return the checkmark to its place. Reboot is required again.

With a very high degree of probability, it can be argued that this error will be eliminated, although, in principle, no one can say exactly how disabling and re-enabling the "native" player affects the correctness of its operation. It may very well be that the developers themselves are not aware of this.

Conclusion

So we looked at the most likely situations when server application execution errors occurred, and we indicated the main methods for fixing them. However, if there was an error while executing the server application, this is far from being all the methods, because sometimes when the operating system itself crashes, you may need to boot from the installation disk or flash drive, update other components, etc. We gave only the simplest versions.
