Drip defrost system: if your refrigerator "cries" is good

The work of any home appliance has its reverse side of the sparkling medal, and not only the comforts that people provide. The existing defrosting systems of refrigerators clearly confirm this. In fact, any equipment for the production of cold "produces" also frost and ice in the form of intentions, periodically generated in the refrigerator and freezers. Because of this, the efficiency of the refrigerator decreases, the compressor operates in an overloaded mode, which significantly "eats" its resource and is fraught with premature failure. To prevent this, the designers have developed defrosting systems.

The most popular is the defrosting system of the refrigerator (also called "crying") - because of the simplicity and the corresponding cheapness. It is equipped with domestic refrigeration units of low and medium price segments. Nevertheless, it relieves housewives from the defrosting of the refrigerator by hand, which was previously wasted a lot of time and effort. Now such an "operation" is the fate of old single-chamber or very cheap units.

A drop chamber for defrosting the refrigerating chamber is implemented according to a cyclic "freeze / thaw" scheme. Structurally, it is provided by the location of the evaporator (cooling element) on the rear wall of the refrigerating chamber. During operation, the compressor pumps the refrigerant and the wall cools down. Simultaneously, ice forms on the evaporator. At regular intervals, the compressor turns off at the command of the program-time device. Since the air temperature surrounding the cooling unit is positive, the ice on the evaporator melts. The resulting moisture droplets drip down the wall and through the drain opening accumulate in a special container located above the compressor. During operation, it is heated quite strongly, this heat is transferred to the water in the container, and it evaporates.

In principle, the drip defrost system simulates the process of water circulation in nature, based on all physical laws known from the school desk. Hence the combination of simplicity and efficiency. "Reasonableness" to the system adds control of the frequency and duration of the defrost cycles by means of a manual temperature controller.

In most models of refrigerators, droplet thawing is absolutely noiseless. In some, there is a crackling of melting ice and dripping of water flowing into the container. These sounds, like the droplets of moisture on the back of the refrigerator, are an indication that all of its systems work correctly. More noise is simply nothing - a fan, as in the device No Frost, is not needed. From the latter, the drip defrosting system is advantageously distinguished also by higher humidity in the refrigerating chamber, which prevents rapid dehydration of the stored products.

The "freeze / thaw" cycle occurs continuously in automatic mode, which does not require any special operations from the user, except for the hygienic care of the refrigerator. Regularly check the opening of the tank, where melt water flows, for a blockage.

As for the freezer, the drip defrost system is not designed for it, and this is its only serious drawback. And however, if the refrigerator is maintained in good condition, it physically can not build a "coat" in the freezer in a short time. For defrosting it is enough to disconnect the appliance from the mains and wait until the ice in the chamber melts. Moreover, it will not be necessary more than once in the half year.
