Drama "Spy Bridge": actors and roles

The movie "Spy Bridge" has all the prerequisites to become megapopular: a famous director, a non-trivial story for the day's rage, plus a great cast. The admirers of Tom Hanks applauded the opportunity to once again contemplate their idol on the screen, and even in such a burning role.

Just two central figures and about twenty minor took part in the filming of a historical drama based on real events of the Cold War, called the "Spy Bridge". Actors and roles were selected by director Spielberg very carefully. For example, on the image of Ivan Shishkin, 300 people were audited, until they found Gorevoy. And no wonder: apart from the brilliant acting it was necessary to have a typical Slavic appearance, and even speak fluent English.

The film "Spy Bridge" (actors and roles): James Donovan

Tom Hanks played a successful Brooklyn insurance lawyer, who was tasked with defending Rudolf Abel, suspected of spying for the Soviet Union. Donovan is a typical American (the image is slightly idealized), striving to do everything right, as regards both legal and moral issues. During the judicial investigation, he is imbued with sympathy and respect for his client and protects his rights with the same persistence with which he once participated in the Nuremberg trial. Significantly appointing a spy lawyer, the US government wanted only to demonstrate its humanity and democracy, they say, in America they do not kill without trial and investigation, although the outcome of the matter was clear to all. Despite the fact that the role of the lawyer was formal, for a tick, Donovan reacted to Abel without a drop of prejudice. In addition, he raised the question of whether it is possible to judge a person for being honestly performing his duty to his country. The government decided to use James's ability to persuade and sent him to Berlin with an unofficial mission to negotiate an exchange of prisoners.

Basic, not compromising, possessing sparkling humor, capable of being unshakable even in the most stressful situations - all those qualities that the real prototype of the character possessed, and Hanks brilliantly managed to convey this in the movie "Spy Bridge". Actors and the roles they performed were supposed to match each other as closely as possible. This is what Spielberg wanted, so Hanks was approved without any doubt. In addition, they already had many joint projects, which became masterpieces.

Mark Rylens as Rudolf Abel

He played his character very dignified. "Persistent peasant" - this is how the scout voiced his life position. He did not cooperate with the FBI, did not give out military secrets. On his face, even in the most intense moments, there was an amazing calm. Even realizing that at home with him will be scorched, he not without resistance sits down on the rear seat of the car on the bridge.

"Spy Bridge": actors and supporting roles

For Spielberg, the priority was always the artist's ability to get used to the image. According to the director of the drama "Spy Bridge", the actors and the roles they performed were supposed to be a single whole. To do this, Amy Ryan, who played James's wife, a strong spirit and a self-sufficient woman, specifically met with her granddaughter Mary Donovan, to tell her more about her grandmother.

Scott Shepherd was invited to the role of Hoffmann, a straightforward CIA officer, and Sebastian Koch played the irritable and hypocritical lawyer Wolfgang Vogel of East Germany. Also the cast was complemented by Alan Alda, Mark Rylens, Billy Magnussen, Domenik Lombardozzi, Yves Hewson, Austin Stowell.

For a long time they looked for the performer of the role of Ivan Shishkin, the second secretary of the Soviet embassy in the GDR, who represented the Soviet government in the exchange talks. The casting was conducted by Mikhail Goreva, and this was his first experience in Hollywood.

The fans of Tom Hanks and the question does not arise whether to watch the movie "Spy Bridge". The plot, actors and roles certainly deserve to single out one evening for viewing. This picture is very worthy of showing both sides of the confrontation, the US and the USSR, and teaches that there are things more important than state borders.
