Cultivation of cucumbers in the open ground and greenhouse
Cucumber - a valuable vegetable, which is very fond of growing summer residents. It is rich in vitamins and trace elements, so as soon as the cucumber season comes, everyone is starting to eat fresh cucumbers in large quantities. And a cucumber - an indispensable vegetable for home sunsets, cooking salads and other delicious dishes. This culture is also unpretentious to the conditions of growing, although it will still have to be surrounded by care. Cultivation of cucumbers in the open ground and in greenhouse conditions - the two main methods of cultivation of crops in country conditions.
Cultivation of cucumbers in the open ground
Most often, cucumbers are grown in this way. The first thing to do is to prepare the ground. This is done in autumn: the site is dug up, and manure and mineral fertilizers are added to the land. In the spring the earth needs to be dug again. Cultivation of cucumbers in the open ground can begin with planting seedlings, or avoid this process. Seedlings of cucumbers growing up are those that are provided with warmth and moisture. As a rule, seedlings are preliminarily planted in greenhouse conditions or on a window sill. It is important to remember that transplanting seedlings in open ground is a painstaking business, therefore, under good weather conditions, one can do without it.
At the time of seed planting, the soil is loosened, grooves are made, the distance between which depends on how further cucumber cultivation takes place in the open ground: on the ground or with a hanging trellis. If the ground method is chosen, when the cucumbers simply spread along the ground, the distance between the rows should be 80-90 cm, the smaller distance will prevent the cucumbers from growing, and the larger will make harvesting more difficult. If preference is given to the trellis method, the distance can be safely reduced by half, because the cucumber will grow in an upright position. Seeds are laid out in the grooves, the distance between them is 8-10 cm. From above, the seeds are covered with a layer of soil and covered with a film. This will allow the land to warm up well, which means that the shoots will appear much faster.
Cultivation of cucumbers in the open ground begins on average in late April, early May. But this is in case if there are no frosts already, and the land is well warmed up. In the case of belated spring, pre-cultivation of seedlings is the best option.
Care for cucumbers is simple. The most important thing is to make sure that the plants do not feel a shortage of moisture. Cucumbers love moist soil, but this does not mean that they should be poured. If rains are infrequent, then cucumbers should be watered every day. Care also consists of the removal of weeds and periodic feeding.
Cultivation of cucumbers in the closed ground
The technology of growing cucumbers in greenhouse conditions does not differ significantly from the method described above. In the greenhouse by the ground method, the vegetable is rarely grown, but the trellis is mostly used. To do this, you need to install a special metal grille or pull several vertical rows of ordinary wire. When the cucumber grows up, you need to make it so that in the future their growth will take place on a tight frame. In some cases, they must be carefully tied to the bottom of the grate or wire. When the plants grow to the top of the greenhouse, they need to be nipped.
Cucumbers grown in a closed ground need more care than those growing on the street. One of the necessary conditions is the temperature control in the greenhouse. Too high temperatures can damage the growth of plants, so in the daytime, especially in hot weather, the windows and doors in the greenhouse should be opened. Also it is necessary to conduct watering and feeding in a timely manner. Gentle care will allow a few weeks to harvest a good harvest.
