Cross switch: wiring diagram, mounting features. Legrand Switches

In the narrow long corridors and on the stairs in one place to turn on the light is inconvenient, since it takes half way to pass in the dark. A simple solution is the inclusion of two pass-through switches (SW). When this number is not enough, use a cross switch, the circuitry of which is presented below.

In contrast to the checkpoints, it has four contacts, not three. It closes one of the two lines.

Operating principle

The cross device can only work if the polarity of the power is switched, for example, when the motor needs to be reversed. Here the principle of operation is extremely simple: if you apply voltage to the input, when you switch the keys on the output, they will change places "plus" and "minus".

In fact, the device is a switch of lines - one turns off one at a time and another one turns on. It is always set between PV. The device contains a pair of input and output contacts. In one position, the first input and output wires are closed. Accordingly, the second ones are also closed. When switching the key, the first input wire closes to the second output, and the second input one to the first output. It is important only to connect the pins properly, otherwise the system will not work correctly.

The switch is set up with two pass-throughs, since it is not used on the home network alone. Most of the connections are made through the junction box.

The cross-bushing is a connecting part between the two-way switches: it consists of 2 cores with one and the same output on the second.

On the back of the cross device on each pair of terminals, the arrows indicate the input and output.

Features of the cross switch

How the device works:

  • Connection is made through a four-wire cable;
  • If several switches are used, all of them are connected in the same chain with each other, where the outputs of the previous one are connected to the inputs of the subsequent one;
  • When creating complex contact groups, a cable with a large number of cores is used;
  • Electricians prefer to apply a few simple schemes instead of one complicated.

Selecting a cross switch

In the store, the buyer may have problems with the selection of the pass-through and cross switches. Outwardly they resemble a device of the usual type, and they are easily confused with each other. The main difference is the number of contacts: for a simple switch there are two, for a through switch - three, and for a cross switch - four. If a two-key model is selected, in each case the number of terminals is doubled.

For open wiring, an overhead model is purchased, and for a hidden one, a recessed box is purchased. The junkets are selected for the switches immediately in the store. Pass and cross devices are chosen the same in appearance and type: rotary, key, lever or sensor. The power of the contacts must not be lower than that of the load.

As for the choice of the manufacturer, the Legrand switches proved to work well, although many may not be able to arrange high prices.

Devices are the best solution for lighting control from several locations.

Instructions for connecting a cross switch

The work is carried out in several stages:

  1. Development of electrical circuit connections.
  2. Shroud laying.
  3. Mounting in the wall of the junction box. Its dimensions should ensure the creation of at least 7 connections, as well as the passage of other wires.
  4. Disconnection of the current supply to the place of installation by the automaton in the control electrical panel.
  5. Laying the cable from the junction box to the switchboard, switches and lights.
  6. Connect the zero conductor to the contacts of the lamps.
  7. Connection of the phase conductor to the contact of the first pass-through switch, and further according to the scheme. Wires between switches should be connected in pairs.
  8. Connect the contacts from the last PV to the lamps through the junction box.

If the connections were made without marking, you can find the paired wires. To do this, first the outermost PVs are connected to the network first, and then, by switching each key, the indicator screwdriver detects the phases on two of the four wires that go to the output. The remaining two wires should be connected to its other pair of terminals.

Double switch

The double cross switch, as well as the pass-through switch, contains two independent contact groups. They are designed to control lighting on two separate lines, not connected with each other.

In fact, the two-key cross switch is a pair of devices in a common housing. Connection of each line is made in a manner similar to the previously stated instruction. It is advisable to first make the wiring to one luminaire, and then - to the other. In this case, the connection chains must not be connected to each other. The control system of the two light sources becomes complicated when a double cross switch is used. The connection scheme is not particularly complicated, but there are many contacts, and they can create confusion. If some electricians mount it, then with subsequent repairs, others are unlikely to deal with this scheme.

The number of connections in the junction box is significantly increased, and there is a problem - all to hide inside it. In addition, the marking of the cable is also complicated. On sale it is possible to find two-key switches Legrand. The model is quite rare and not always available. Electricians usually try to divide such a scheme into two simple ones.

Conclusion

When it is necessary to increase the number of lighting control points more than two, a cross switch is used. The wiring diagram must necessarily contain the pass-through devices, except when it is necessary to change the polarity of the power supply. The switching system of lighting from several places is not difficult. It is important to correctly mark the wiring and not get confused in the connections.
