Conization of the cervix.

Conization of the cervix-gynecological manipulation, which is a conical excision of pathological tissue of the cervical canal in the form of a cone. The removal of tissues is carried out within not only the pathological site, but a part of healthy tissues is also captured, in order to exclude the possible degeneration of other tissues. Conization of the cervix is a type of medical biopsy, After removal of tissues they are sent for histological examination to confirm the diagnosis.

Conization of the cervix is used as a method of treatment and diagnosis for dysplastic processes of the cervix. The misconception is that conification is shown in erosion. More often than not, erosion responds well to conservative therapy and does not require conization. However, if colposcopy revealed atypical cells in the field of erosion, then, probably, the patient needs to be conized.

After the conization was carried out and the pathological tissues were examined, a final diagnosis can be made. Sometimes after conization, not all pathological cells are excised, and they can reproduce further. To prevent such a situation, women are recommended to have a gynecologist once every 6 months and conduct diagnostic colposcopy. If after a while the atypical cells are re-identified, then conization should be repeated.

Conization of the cervix is a fairly common manipulation in gynecology, which in most cases prevents malignant degeneration of cells. But there are many cases where after conization, patients are diagnosed with cervical cancer (cancer). In this situation, patients are recommended removal of the uterus - hysterectomy.

If after conization, a cancer with deep germination into the surrounding tissues was detected, then a course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy is necessary. These methods help to slow the development of the tumor and prevent metastasis.

Koninization can be carried out in three ways:

  1. Excision of the edges of the scalpel is the most common method and the very first.
  1. Using a carbon dioxide laser. It is believed that this method is characterized by minimal trauma and no complications.
  1. Electrosurgical loop excision is one of the newest methods of conization, but it is also quite effective.

However, it should be noted that despite all the advantages of the laser and loop method, they complicate further diagnostics. After all, after excision of the edges in such ways, they are sealed and destroyed, and accordingly it is impossible to determine the pathological cells in the cervix.

Possible violations following conization of the cervix:

- bleeding in the first week (a rather dangerous symptom, because in some situations can lead to death)

- Brown discharge from the vagina within 1-3 weeks after conification

- violation of the menstrual cycle

- cramping pains in the lower abdomen

- infertility due to narrowing of the cervical canal

- early opening of the cervix in childbirth

- fever

Pregnancy after conization of the cervix can occur six months later, provided there are no complications. Patients after coning during pregnancy should be observed more carefully and attentively to their feelings. It is necessary to conduct a cytological examination once a month. Childbirth after conization is usually done with caesarean section (but this is not considered an absolute indication), but if a woman insists on independent births, and she has no other contraindications, then under strict supervision of a midwife and a doctor, delivery without a cesarean section can be performed.
