Computer Does Not Turn On

In one not the most wonderful moment your beloved friend, comrade and almost that brother - a personal computer, with a friendly wink at the work indicator, and rustling fans at startup, waving the handle and turning off. Here's the scoundrel. Let's try to figure out what's wrong with it and why the computer does not turn on. Do not rush to call computer help - maybe you will not need it.

What usually happens?

Common situation? Then let's see what could be the matter.

Everything works, and the monitor - no

It looks like this: you turn everything on as usual, the computer hums, puffs, the hard drive rustles, loading Windows (rustling if you do not have SDD). In general, everything is as usual, only on the monitor nothing is visible. Nothing at all. Malevich. Plagiarism. So what could happen, because of what the computer does not turn on?

  • Cable . Check if the cable is connected from the monitor to the computer.
  • Monitor . Is the monitor turned on? Does the button flash on it? After all, it may be that the monitor itself is damaged.
  • Overclocking . Sometimes the monitor does not turn on due to overclocking of the processor. If you did this, you obviously overdid it. Open the system unit and remove the battery for 15 seconds to reset the CMOS settings. Then go to the BIOS and configure the computer.
  • Dust . Yes, it can also be the cause. Clean the system unit from dust with a vacuum cleaner. Do not ignore the power supply. Try removing and re-inserting the memory slots. Do the same with the video card.
  • Power supply . There may be a problem with it. Then, unfortunately, you will most likely have to change the entire unit, or contact the craftsmen.

Press the power button and ... silence

You wanted to turn on the computer, came up, clicked on the button and moved away. After a couple of seconds, you understand what went wrong: the computer never turned on! Your versions?

  • Power supply . Perhaps the computer is simply turned off: either from the power outlet or on the power supply from the rear, the toggle switch is turned off. If the computer is connected via a surge protector or UPS, check that the fuses are not knocked out.
  • Power button . There may be poor contact or breakage. Well, open the system unit and try changing the connectors on the motherboard: power to reset. More details on where these connectors are located, if you are not sure. You can see the instructions to the motherboard.
  • Dust . It can easily close the contact and interfere with the inclusion. Therefore, try cleaning the inside of the system unit in any convenient way. To protect the interior - better clean up the street, in the corridor or on the balcony.
  • Breakdown . Of course, something could have broken down: perhaps a power supply, or something on the motherboard - a microcrack or a capacitor. This is an excuse to carry your friend into the computer service.

Quick shutdown

The computer turns on and instantly turns off, as if going to participate in the Olympiad in this sport, and you forgot to warn. What about him?

  • The problem with food and ventilation. This is the case when the coolers stop immediately after turning on. Open the system unit and look at a series of small cylinders next to the processor - these parts are called capacitors. Check if one or more of the lids are bulging.
  • Overheating . The problem may be due to the excessive heating of the processor or chipset. Is it normal to install fans and radiators? Has the whole thermal paste on the processor dried up? It serves to reduce heating. If it's almost gone - you need to replace it, applying a thin even layer on the top surface of the processor.
  • Dust . Sometimes you can help clean the unit from dust. It seems that this is a universal advice.

If all this has not helped you or you are unsure, that you can cope with any malfunctions - contact computer service.
