Combined ceiling: plasterboard and tension (photo). How to make a combined ceiling

A few decades ago, the design of ceilings did not cause any problems for the owners of housing: they were simply whitened or painted in light colors. Today, a huge amount of modern decoration materials have appeared, allowing you to create the most incredible ceiling structures that our grandmothers could not even dream about.

Combined stretch ceilings, photos of which are increasingly appearing on the pages of publications on design, are now supplemented by structures made of drywall. This combination looks very stylish and original. This design method allows you to create complex shapes with an interesting background and original highlighting, thus emphasizing the interior of any room. Today, this is a very common method of finishing living quarters - combined ceilings (plasterboard and stretch), photos of which you can see in our article.

Advantages and disadvantages of construction

According to designers, such a complex design looks good in almost any interior. Combined ceiling (gypsum board and stretch cloth) has a number of advantages, among which it should be noted:

Variety of shapes

This way you can create non-standard designs that have a gypsum cardboard frame with a stretch coating inside, intricate labyrinths of GCR, complex figures that can be framed with a sparkling, glossy, mirror or matte film.

Lighting

The method allows using different types of lighting. Suspended ceilings practically have no restrictions in the choice of lighting devices, unlike tension ones. Therefore, high-power lamps can be mounted in a box made of gypsum board.

Zoning

Combined ceilings, photos of which are already placed in the textbooks for design, are also good because using different colors of materials and textures, as well as point lighting, you can divide the room into functional zones (rest, work).

Laying of communications

This design will help to easily hide pipes, wiring and ventilation ducts.

Long service life

With competent installation and maintenance, the combined ceiling will last you very long: at least twenty years. You do not need to update the finish as often as in the case of a whitewashed, painted or wallpapered wallpaper. To install such a design, you do not need an ideal alignment of the base surface.

Are there any drawbacks to such a ceiling?

Undoubtedly, there are some disadvantages to this kind of coverage. They are much smaller than the merits, however they should be taken into account when planning such a reconstruction in the house. The disadvantages of this method include:

Decrease in height

Virtually any two-level design takes about 10 cm of the height of the room. The combined ceiling is no exception. In addition, if spot illumination is supposed, even for the first level it will take at least ten centimeters. Consequently, there can be no question of installing such a ceiling, for example, in Khrushchev.

High price

High-quality stretch fabric and drywall sheets, profiles, will cost much more than just two-level combined ceilings from gypsum board (photo you can see in the article).

Temperature and humidity

Stretch fabric PVC and gypsum board is operated at a certain humidity and temperature. If these values significantly exceed the norm, the materials can be deformed.

Variants of combined ceilings

The combination of suspended structures from gypsum board and stretch fabrics on the ceiling with a competent choice will help you create magnificent optical effects. In this case, a variety of options are available, with both hidden and open illumination.

So, we present to you the most popular variants of combined ceilings from plasterboard and stretch fabrics.

  1. A box is built around the perimeter of the plasterboard room. The PVC linen in this case is fixed inside the box, the dimensions of which can vary. However, there are certain rules. If you need to visually raise the ceiling, emphasizing the beauty of the canvas, then the panels from the GCR are made thin. An excellent visual effect is achieved when spotlights are mounted inside the box.
  2. The oval or circle in the center of the ceiling is a good alternative to the usual plasterboard rectangle located on the perimeter of the room. Inside, the tension web is mounted. Such a combined ceiling often imitates a day or night sky. However, such a ceiling is not suitable for a small room: it will seem even smaller, because all its corners will be covered with plasterboard.
  3. "Tablet" is an interesting ceiling design. In the center of the ceiling, a gypsum plasterboard is built. Here, a chandelier is mounted. All the rest of the space is occupied by the tension web. A variety of such a design can be considered a "circle in a circle." In this case, an additional gypsum board is installed along the perimeter of the room.

Preparing for installation

Before creating a combined ceiling, you need to free the room from furniture, remove curtains and curtains, lighting fixtures and paintings, insulate the ends of the wires, cover the floor with a film.

The preparation of the base surface is carried out in the same way as before installing any suspension or tension structure:

  • Remove the old cladding layer;
  • With a spatula clean poorly fixed plaster;
  • Cover large slots with cement-based fillers;
  • Primed with a coating.

Necessary materials and components

To install a frame from gypsum board you will need:

  • Profile directing (starting) - UD;
  • Bearing profile (ceiling) - CD;
  • Single-level connectors ("crabs");
  • Flared dowels;
  • Self-tapping screws;
  • Gypsum board thickness of 9 mm.

Combined ceilings in the hall (photo we have posted in this article), the bedroom or another living room can be made of ordinary drywall. If the work is done in the kitchen or in the bathroom, then give preference to the GKLV. These sheets have additional silicone granules and antifungal additives, which have increased moisture resistance.

To create a stretch of the structure you will need:

  • Aluminum baguette;
  • Blade for filling the cloth;
  • Fasteners fixing the baguette to the plasterboard;
  • A heat gun (for one-time use it is more expedient to take it out for rent).

Selecting a cloth

Now you need to decide on the choice of fabric material - fabric or film. The first is more durable, not too afraid of temperature changes, the film is attractive by a huge variety of colors, textures, increased moisture resistance.

Do I need a drawing for installation?

Yes, before starting the installation work, it is necessary to create a scheme of the desired design on paper. To do this, follow these recommendations:

  • Measure the length of the walls, the height of the corners, and the center of the room;
  • Note on the diagram the height of the first level (plasterboard box) and the distance between the tension web and the base surface;
  • Draw on the drawing the boundary contour between two levels and the line of fixing the guide bearing profiles in increments of 60 cm (along) and 40 cm (crosswise);
  • Note the location of the suspension and installation of communications.

After that, all lines from the drawing are transferred to the ceiling of the wall. Remember that the further progress of the work depends on how accurately you apply the markup. On the planned lines it is much easier to install the frame. To apply the scheme to the ceiling use a padded cord, water or laser level, tape measure.

If the boundary of the plasterboard and the stretch ceiling has the shape of a circle, then it can be transferred to the ceiling by means of a screwed into the center of the screw, to which the thread of the desired radius is attached with a pencil fixed at the end. To apply curved lines, it is necessary to make a workpiece from a dense cardboard and to circle it on the ceiling.

Edging of the battens

The design of combined ceilings can be different. Often the choice of the appropriate option depends on your imagination and professional skills (if you plan to mount it yourself).

First of all, you need to make sure that holes for fasteners are made in the guide profile . Their step should be from 0.3 to 0.4 meters. If there are none, you will have to use a drill and make them yourself.

The order of further work

Attach the bottom edge of the starting profile to the previously applied marking line. Drill holes in the marked places for fixing and fix the supporting profile around the perimeter of the room, using flared dowels.

On the contour of the boundary of the tension and suspended ceiling of the base surface, set the guide profile. If you want to bend it, you should make cuts from the opposite side and bend it in the right direction. Hanging in the marked places.

Now pull the nylon thread for the ceiling profiles and insert them into the guide. Fix the suspensions. At the ends of the carrier profiles, a clipped rail must be attached. It must repeat the profile contour UD fixed on the ceiling in accuracy. Prepare segments of the ceiling profile. Their length should correspond to the height of the plasterboard box. On one side, cut off the side pieces.

Connect the lower and upper guide profiles. To do this, the segment from above must be inserted into the guide profile and screwed down from the bottom by a plane that was formed after removing the jumpers.

Communications

After installing the gypsum cardboard frame, you should deal with the installation of communications. The wires are placed in a corrugated plastic pipe and fixed to the base surface, leaving pins in the places where the fixtures are planned to be installed. These works are carried out after a power outage in the room.

How to frame the frame?

This work should be carried out with an assistant, as drywall is quite heavy material, and it is very difficult to cope with its fastening alone. The first sheet is fixed in the corner of the room. If necessary, a contour is applied to the sheet by the template and the necessary details are cut out. Screws of screws cut into the material, but not too hard not to tear it. The second sheet is attached to the remaining half of the profile, to which the first canvas was fixed.

Between the wall and plasterboard it is necessary to leave a gap of about 0.5 cm. In the same way, the entire area is sheathed. Now you can attach the drywall to the vertical part of the box. On curvilinear sections, it is bent, for which shallow cuts are made from the rear.

After the carcass plating, it is necessary to glue the joints between the sheets and the wall with a ribbon-serpyanka. In the gaps and attachment points, apply the filler with a small spatula. Overlap the vertical and horizontal parts of the box with fiberglass. In places of overlap, make a notch with a stationery knife and remove excess.

It's time to make holes for the lamps. To do this, you will need a bit with a bit. Shpaklyuem surface finish layer, a thickness of not more than half a centimeter. When the compound is completely dry, peel it with fine-grained sanding paper.

Remove dust from the surface with a vacuum cleaner or a dry cloth. Finally, apply the finish coat. As a rule, the combined ceiling is covered (gypsum board part) with acrylic composition.

Fastening of PVC-cloth

Experts recommend choosing a film with a harpoon fastener: it is considered the most reliable. Mark the level of the web placement on the vertical part of the constructed box. On this line, attach the baguette with a step of 7 cm. If a curvilinear design is planned, make incisions on the profile, sand it with sandpaper or file, and bend it in the required direction.

With a heat gun warm the room to 40 ° C and unfold the canvas. If it is glossy, then work gloves to make sure there are no traces left. Cloth should not be brought close to the heat gun - it may appear dark spots. When the room warms up to 60 ° C, the harpoon of the base angle of the canvas (which the manufacturer marks) is filled in a baguette. Also, the opposite diagonal angle is fixed, and then the two remaining ones.

After this, you should start tightening in the harpoon baguette around the perimeter of the level. Then heat the whole surface with a heat gun. Do not be discouraged if, upon completion of the installation, you find wrinkles on the surface - they are easy to smooth out by heating the substandard area once more.

Let's sum up the results

It is not easy to create a composite structure from gypsum board and stretch fabric. This process is laborious, which will require not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills. We hope that the above recommendations and photos will help you to cope with this work and to fulfill it qualitatively.
