Appearance

The modern coat of arms of the Astrakhan region is a quadrangular French heraldic shield with a pointed end and rounded lower corners. The ratio of the height and width of the shield is 9: 8, the upper and lower field along the vertical axis are related as 1: 1.

The shield's field is colored in monophonic blue, in its center there is a golden crown, beneath it is a scimitar (a cold weapon with a curved long and wide blade) with a handle made of gold. The silver blade of the scimitar is turned to the left. The shield is crowned with an Astrakhan hat.

The Golden Crown, which adorns the coat of arms of the Astrakhan region, has a hoop with three leaf-shaped teeth, under which a green lining shines. Above is a golden miter (the headdress of clergy in Christian churches, symbolizes the crown of thorns and at the same time the King of Christ), crowned with a cross. Miter with a hoop is connected by five arcs, peppered. On the hoop and in the center of the crown are sequentially located precious stones - rubies and emeralds.

The Astrakhan hat (a synonym for "The Big Outfit") is a headdress made in 1627 personally for the Russian king Mikhail Romanov in honor of the conquest of the Astrakhan khanate. It is a rounded frame, the lower part of which is decorated with a massive diadem with eight teeth, and the upper one with a two-tiered crown with a large emerald. Below the cap is trimmed with sable fur. The crown is strewn with pearls and precious stones.

  • The crown symbolizes the accession of the Astrakhan khanate to Russia in 1556.
  • Yatagan - means the willingness of the Russian commander to protect his native land from enemies. The blade is pointed in the direction from which the conquerors can come. According to another version, the presence on the coat of arms of the eastern curve sword represents the original belonging of the Khanate to the Muslim world.
  • Hat - says that the territory of the region is not originally Russian land, but became part of the empire at a certain time.
  • The blue color of the shield indicates the location of the region in the lower reaches of the Volga River - one of the largest on the planet.
