Chivalry: Medieval Warfare: review, release date, system requirements

We have an amazing and original project by Torn Banner. I just want to note that our story is not intended to put any evaluation to the game, but will try to consider this creation from different sides. After all, as we know, there are no identical opinions. Therefore, please do not judge strictly. It's about Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. The review should help to look at this project from the outside, but in no case do not tarnish this wonderful game.

Requirements

Before thinking about whether to buy (or download on a pirated site) this creation, let's just make sure that it will run on your PC. Game Chivalry: Medieval Warfare created on the engine of Unreal Engine 3, and therefore, claims for increased requirements for "hardware."

And really. To play normally in this "network chopper", you will need a quad-core processor with a clock speed of 2.8 GHz, 4 GB of RAM, and a video card of the Radeon HD 58XX generation with 1 GB of video memory. In fact, not so much. Just remember that the game network and the slightest problems with the characteristics will lead to "brakes" in the gameplay itself, and hence, to a lower FPS, which will significantly reduce your chances of survival.

However, if you just wanted to try to play, you can get by with minimal system requirements: a 2.4 GHz dual-core processor, 2 GB RAM and a 512 MB video card. Not so much for the 2012 game.

Plot

Well, if you can say so. Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, the review of which you read, is a logical "continuation" and "reincarnation" of the amateur modification for Half-Life 2 called Age of Chivalry. In fact, we have Counter Strike in a gloomy medieval atmosphere.

In fact, this indie game is very difficult to write down in the category of "games with the plot." Yes, we know that two unknown lords are at war, and the player needs to join one of the parties. But this choice is a complete fiction. Fractions do not differ in armament and tasks, as it is done in the same CS.

On the other hand, missions claim diversity. Games with the plot (the more qualitative) are rare nowadays, so the scenarios proposed by the game are very interesting: sieges of castles, protection of peasants or just a wall to the wall. In general, the developers turned out to be very anturate toy, no matter what.

Classes

What can Chivalry provide: Medieval Warfare? An overview of the available options will not take long. In total, the player is available 4 types of weapons: small arms, pole, two-handed and one-handed weapons. Based on this, game situations and class "abilities" are formed.

If everything is clear with the first point, and the arrows are a unique type of troops, then with the other three you need to understand a bit more tightly. The most offensive is that there is no balance in the game. In the biggest loss in this situation are light infantrymen. If the archer still has a chance to shoot an enemy from afar (though, this requires a remarkable skill and luck), then a lightly armed soldier has practically nothing to oppose to the enemy with a long one-and-a-half or halberd.

We will talk about technical problems related to the combat system, but for the time being let's talk about the good.

Character

Unlike many similar games, where characters are forced to fight on the map with each other, there is no personal aspect. You just choose a class and go into battle.

In Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, game developers could draw a lot of interesting ideas. For example, the system of pumping a character. The system itself does not notify you, for which you received some points in combat, but in the process you open access to new and new weapons. Plus this or minus, it's hard to say, but the idea is rather extravagant.

By the way, in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare the weapon decides everything. As already mentioned above, despite the possibility of blocking enemy strikes, it is very difficult to confront a heavily armed rival, but if you somehow manage to block the blow of a two-handed knife with a knife, your joy will be short-lived. It is unlikely that you will be able to withstand the next blow.

Content

Oh, it's worth talking about separately, because even here we do not cease to amaze Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. An overview of the maps, if you wanted to compose it, it would not take 30 minutes, because there are only six of them in the game. At the same time, each of them has a maximum of two modes. In total you can play only 12 scenarios ... Maybe for an indie game this is a sufficient number, but I would like to have more.

Since we have already briefly considered classes and armament, we will not dwell on them separately, but we can mention the single-user mode. Oh, yes, he's not here. Despite the fact that the game offers the user a completely distinct training, it is normal to join the game process, except that after a hundred lost duels, and that's not a fact. In general, the toy offers in practice to learn to fight. On the one hand, it's very good, because it gives it a hardcore, on the other hand, it scares off new players.

And there would be no harm if there was a game mode with bots. A novice could hone at least some skills. But AI, built into the game, is notable for its awkwardness. Bots boldly cut their own, punch them in ditches or just get stuck on a small stone in the middle of the road. But this is an online game, can you blame her for that.

That, in fact, and everything that Chivalry can offer us: Medieval Warfare. The review is succinct, but, oddly enough, complete. It remains to be hoped that the developers will expand both the number of cards, and the functionality, so that this game remained on the computer for longer than 3-4 evenings.

Servers

Of course, if you play through "Steam", then problems with the search for servers should arise. But for the owners of the pirated version of things are much worse. The easiest way to find a company is to play a special service. Ideally suitable Russian-language portal chival [dot] ru. There is a list of servers on which games are regularly played. Unfortunately, the game is not in great demand in Russia, so most of the opportunities presented are English aipishniki. However, it does not matter. You will not have much time to talk.

Another problem related to Chivalry: Medieval Warfare on the Net is not quite a clear connection to the server. To join the game, you need to launch the application and press [~]. The console opens, and there you have to type the command open [ip]: [port]. This is not so difficult, because in all lists of servers this data is there, but I would like the interface to be more friendly to the player.

Cheats

Despite the fact that the game was developed by an independent publisher and they hardly thought about protection seriously, there are no cheaters in the game. That is absolutely. Search the Internet for Chivalry: Medieval Warfare cheats - an impossible and meaningless business. This game is simply not so popular that an experienced computer programmer is engaged in the development of trainers or codes for it.

So this is very encouraging. The game is almost entirely built on the player's personal skill, and it is here that "the hands decide everything". For modern online games, where very much depends on the money invested in the project, this is a big rarity. In this respect, other game developers can only envy.

Problems

However diligently we did not delay this moment, but it's time to talk about the flaws in this game. By the way, the developers themselves said that they got the project exactly as they intended, and it justifies their expectations. That's just the facts say either about the perverted feeling of the beautiful creators, or about the blind, almost maternal, love for their creation.

We have already mentioned the imbalance of classes, a small amount of content and some other flaws. And all this is forgivable for indie games. But there are some factors, because of which, when starting this project in your home, you must prepare for the worst.

  • First, it is the quality of trees. The beautiful, gloomy Middle Ages are completely spoiled by "plasticine" trees. Where did these models come from? A mystery covered in darkness, because everything else in the game is drawn at a high level.
  • Regimes rules are not written. In principle, everywhere the task is the same - to kill all opponents. But what about story missions?
  • On widescreen monitors, you can see "ragged" hands and shoulders of the player, and this is seen from the first person.
  • Many textures "buggy". It's funny to watch a running infantryman with a full-fledged two-meter spear stuck in his leg.
  • There is no auto balance of the parties. Therefore, if someone wants to get through quickly, he can easily change sides and crush the number of former allies.
  • No switchable "friendly fire" mode. You can easily hack your entire team at the start of the round. And given the inadequate mentality, this occurs almost in 50% of cases.

In general, all this is not such a terrible flaws, which the developers promised to fix patches. But the latter is a real problem. The fact is that because of incorrect textures and models, or because of the crooked code, it happens that you can hit the opponent with a sword, and he just passes through and does not do any harm, but the enemy, striking in five Meters from you, will chop off your head. This is the most serious problem that has yet to be solved by the creators of Chivalry: Medieval Warfare.

By the way, one more side, which is worth mentioning. The fact is that in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare servers are configured and divided into player levels. In most cases, the threshold of acceptable values: 0-15 level. But there are not so many servers for "high-lvl" players. So one day you risk "go beyond the limit" and stay without a company for the game.

Summary

In general, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare turned out to be interesting and exciting. Despite the multiple flaws, this game is worth your attention. And given that the developers continue to support and update it, it is hoped that one day it will be polished to shine and shine with new colors for thousands of players.
