Chamomile odorless: description of the species where the plant is found and how to fight it

A small white flower on a straight branchy stem attracts the attention of many, as passers-by confuse it with a medicinal plant, called chamomile. But it is worth bending lower, as there is a noticeable difference - the flower has no smell at all. The thing is that this chamomile is odorless, that is a weed common in the fields and gardens.

Description of the species

The Latin name of this representative of the plant kingdom is Matricaria inodora L. A white flower is called chamomile, chamomile or matron. The class to which the plant is assigned is dicotyledonous. The flower belongs to the family of astroids. The genus of the plant is a three-ribbed bush.

It is visually difficult to imagine what an odorless chamomile can have for an astronomer. The family unites a large group of herbaceous plants with a complex flower representing a basket of small flowers. They can be tubular or reed, and some have a mixed basket. Chamomile is odorless in the basket and combines tubular and reed flowers, which fully corresponds to the declared family.

The stem of chamomile odorless is quite high, it can rise above the ground to 70 cm. Inside the stalk is hollow, on the outside - furrowed. The leaves of her are pinnately dissected, consisting of filamentary lobes. Inflorescence type is a basket of round shape. It is located at the ends of stalks or branches. Leaflets covering the basket have a blunt elongated shape, the flower-head slightly conical. The marginal flowers of the white-colored tongue-shaped basket. They are longer than the covering petals. The middle part of the inflorescence consists of yellow tubular flowers.

What does a plant look like?

Chamomile chamomile has several flattened fruits-achenes of dark brown color. A distinctive feature of the fetus is a short leathery crest. The length of each achene is no more than 2 mm, width - 1 mm. Weight is also quite small, it can vary from 0.2 to 0.5 mg.

The shape of the fetus is reflected in the name of the plant genus. Precisely because the seed has three distinct facets, the chamomile is odorless to the genus of the three-ribbed.

Where is the plant found?

Chamomile odorless - a weed that clogs corn fields and fodder meadows. She meets at dachas and kitchen gardens, on roadsides and around garbage dumps. Often weeds are found along the banks of water bodies. The plant is particularly at risk for winter rye plantation near forest plantations.

Camomile odorless requires a certain level of moisture, so in drier places gradually moves into beams, ravines and lowlands. The plant spread widely throughout Europe, captured Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, the countries of the Lesser Caucasus and, in part, China.

Not very abundant thickets of camomile canine are found in North Asia and in America.

Some features of chamomile odorless

Matronka blooms from mid-May to late autumn. The flower reproduces with the help of seeds, which in a great quantity ripen in each plant. One chamomile odorless in a season produces up to 30 thousand seeds. If the plant is bushy, then this indicator is much higher. Seeds clog the soil and spread by the feet of people and animals, as well as wind. Germination of seeds persists for a long time (up to 6 years).

The economic importance of the plant

In terms of essential oils, chamomile is odorless, the photo of which is found in textbooks and reference books, is much inferior to the chamomile. Therefore, as a medicinal plant, this species is not considered. Although at home it is sometimes dried and used for treatment.

As a fodder, the dog's chamomile is also not used, as the animals bypass it on pastures. From this suggests the conclusion that chamomile odorless has no economic value and can only be considered as a weed.

How to deal with it?

To overcome this kind of weeds, it is necessary to observe the correct crop rotation and care for crops. The soil should be treated by the method of semifinished peeling. It is obligatory to carry out early autumn plowing and post-sowing processing, including the treatment of vapors.

In the fields, weeding operations are carried out in row-spacing, and, if necessary, in rows. In addition, it is necessary to mow chamomile odorless in uncultivated areas before flowering.
