Bugul - demon-devourer of children's showers

Demon named Bagul, many became interested after watching the movie "Sinister," because there this creature figured as an anti-hero, instilling fear and forcing young children to commit terrible acts. After the demon received the soul of such a child and took it to his retinue. But what does mythology tell about a creature like Bagul? Is it a demon or a deity? And was it really called by the ancient people?

Bagul in the movie "Sinister"

First, we'll get to know Bagul from the horror film closer. According to one of the heroes - a professor of occult sciences - a legend, Bagul is a demon. Mythology claims that they sacrificed children. This ancient rite was typical of the Scandinavian peoples, but to manifest itself as a mystical being began in the United States, and approximately from the 60s of the last century.

Once in a few years, under strange circumstances, a family perished in one of the states. At the same time, each time they found the bodies of all its members, with the exception of one child. Disappearance was investigated, but neither the body, nor the boy or the girl was found. Similarly, it was not possible to find the killer. They ceased to write about the incident in the press, police reports were gathering dust in the plots, and in a few years everything was repeated again.

What does demonology say?

The field of knowledge that studies evil spirits, argues that the Norwegian demon Bagul is just a fiction of Hollywood filmmakers. In fact, no one knew a creature with that name. In none of the sources Bugul is mentioned, although demons and gods, who were sacrificed to children, so that they could be saturated with their souls, existed.

Thus, in the culture of the Aztecs, perhaps, violent acts of violence against children were committed. In the last century, a burial was discovered, which prompted researchers to make similar conclusions. In it, the remains of 42 children rested. According to some signs, experts have concluded that this is a ritual murder. Perhaps the sacrifices were intended for the ancient god Tlaloc - the rain patron, able to grant fertility.

Carthaginians also gave the souls of their children to the gods, so that they contributed to their success in trade and other matters. Such an assumption was expressed by scientists after the remains of 200 boys and girls were found. According to the records of Plutarch, children from rich families were especially appreciated by the gods, and also the only heirs.

Moloch is the prototype of Bagul?

So, in ancient cultures, sacrifices of children sometimes took place. But the cases described above show that people did this to appease the gods. And what about demons? How did these creatures manifest themselves in the fantasy of the creators of the film "Sinister"? Let's try to figure it out.

In the movie, Bagul is a demon who takes away the souls of children. Perhaps his prototype was Moloch, the deity of the Moabites, who was mentioned in the Bible. The rite of sacrifice was truly terrible. In the hands of the statue of Moloch (he was portrayed as a man with a bull's head) they placed the child, and below the fire they built a fire. The cries of the baby were muffled by ritual chants ...

Moloch is sometimes called not just a deity, but a demon. However, some researchers are inclined to assume that this mythical character never really existed. And in general, children's sacrifices were a rarity among the ancient peoples, and the word mlk (Molok, Moloch), found in scientific treatises of those times, could reflect only the very term of the transfer of the baby's soul to one or another deity.

Bugul and children in the film "Sinister"

Let's go back to the famous horror film. In it, children fell into the clutches of Bagugu only after they committed terrible crimes. In fact, it was they who killed members of their families, and then left the demon for service. After this, the task of these little black souls was the recruiting of new minions of Bagul. The dead children came into contact with the living, those who were themselves to kill their relatives soon, and urged them that it was absolutely necessary. Bagul himself remained in the shadows for the time being. Perhaps he was afraid of frightening his future victim.

Children from the suite were afraid of Bagul. "He will come, he will be dissatisfied," - so they sometimes said, before in horror dissolve in the dark corners of the house. Why the demon to death frightened the already dead children, unfortunately, it is not clear, since this moment remained in the film behind the scenes.

What is terrible about Bagul?

This Scandinavian demon (again, as stated in the film) for many centuries was forgotten by people. Perhaps he was hunting somewhere in remote places, and then something brought him to the United States of America. As a monster from Hollywood horror films, he can hardly be considered the most terrible. He does not actually appear in public, remains on the sidelines and almost does not participate in what is happening. Moreover, he does not even jump out unexpectedly from around the corner with the cry of "Boo!" And does not make terrible faces.

But as the archetype of Bagul symbolizes an unavoidable grievous loss. He takes first the mind of a loved one, a small child, and then a soul, and a few more lives remain for him to eat.

Bugul is a demon-devourer of children who did not really exist. But from this less frightening this creature does not become.
