"Blue screen of death"! What to do?

The term "Blue Screen of Death" (BSoD) translates as "blue screen of death". This is a general colloquial name for messages about critical failures in operating systems running MS Windows. Their appearance is caused by the occurrence of unrecoverable errors that occur when executing the code of any drivers or processor core. As a result, the only possible action for the user is sending the computer to a restart without the ability to save the current data.

Typically, the system default settings are set in such a way that in the event of a critical failure, the computer restarts automatically. After that, the operating system creates an entry in the log, which describes the error that occurred.

Information that can be used when you see the "blue screen of death" - errors and their codes, technical characteristics, as well as some tips for troubleshooting these failures. Usually the message and recommendations have a standard form, but the technical information changes according to the type of error that occurred and consists of:

- the code of the failure and its symbolic name;
- parameters explaining the error, intended for debugging software;
- addresses of the fault location;
- the name of the driver in which the fault occurred.
How to be in the case if the "blue screen of death" still appeared? As we said above, the system settings assume an automatic reboot in case of BSoD. In doing so, she will do this until the error is completely eliminated. But we recommend that you disable this option so that the user can record the trouble code and find out the cause that caused it. To do this, open the "Control Panel", go to "System", in which on the left side there will be a link "Additional System Settings". In the opened properties on the "Advanced" tab, click the "Options" button in the "Download and Restore" section, then in the "System Failure" block, uncheck "Perform an automatic restart". The made changes to save.
If you have a "blue screen of death" before you, write down the error code, it will help to find out the cause of the fault that has arisen. After that, send the computer to the reboot using the "Reset" button. When the system starts to boot, press F8. In the menu that appears, select "Download Last Known Good Configuration".
If this operation does not work, restart the computer again, press F8 again and enter the safe mode. If the download is successful, try to restore the system. If this fails, find the code for your error in the special table, which contains a list of faults that cause the "blue screen of death", and try to find out its cause. After fixing it, try to restore the system again using the safe mode.
If the problem that causes BSoD has a software, not a hardware character, it will be enough to restore the system, or better still, to re-install it, and this error will no longer appear.

In order to make sure that the hardware of your computer is in order, you need to test its hardware. You can check the hard drive using the MHDD utility, which is launched from a 3.5-inch disk under MS-DOS, and to check the status of RAM, you can use memtest86 +, which also runs from a floppy disk.

By the way, the "blue screen of death" Windows 7 will soon cease to be relevant - this is the last OS where it will be present in its pure form. However, you should not flatter yourself, because this does not mean that Microsoft will write the perfect OS. The fact is that BSoD will simply be replaced with KSoD ("blacK Screen of Death"), and henceforth you will have to deal with the "black screen of death," that's all.

Finally, we note that reinstalling the OS is only a short-term solution to the BSoD problem, and if the cause of its occurrence has not been clarified, there is a high probability that it will appear again in the near future.
