History

Birch is a city with a unique history. At first it was the village of Byarosa. Its owner Jan Gamshey built there the Church of the Holy Trinity. This is the first mention of this settlement, dating back to 1477. A little later the village received the status of a city. Every year fairs were held there, crafts were actively developed. In the 16th century this place became one of the centers of Calvinism. The new owner of Byarosa, Lev Sapega, organized the erection of a new church here, but the beginning of the liberation war of the Ukrainian Cossacks with the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth prevented the promotion of works . Only in 1650 the Poles signed a decree establishing the monastic order of the Cartesians in Byarosa, which resulted in the construction of a new monastery. His monks led an ascetic life, but for the lay people held divine services that attracted many people, which contributed to the further development of the city. If it were not for an endless war, we would live and prosper in Byarosa. So, the Swedish troops led by Charles XII destroyed and plundered the city twice. The damage was inflicted also by the Russians under the command of Suvorov. New troubles occurred already in the XX century, first during the First World War, then - the Second. The fascists brought a lot of evil, destroying dozens of buildings and destroying thousands of civilians.

sights

Birch is a very beautiful city. Although it is almost 540 years old, there were few ancient buildings here. The most popular attraction is the ruins and surviving fragments of the Cartesian monastery. It safely existed until 1863. For the fact that the monks during the uprising took the side of the Poles, the Russians, who were at that time masters of the city, closed the monastery. Later, a significant part of it was dismantled. The brick went for the construction of red barracks, which are also a landmark of the Birch. The barracks are notorious for the fact that in them the Poles arranged a prison camp for "political". Now here organize exhibitions and are engaged in creativity children. An interesting object is the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, in which there are many ancient icons. Continuing the glorious traditions of their ancestors, the townspeople create new sights. Thus, at the end of the 20th century, the Trinity Church and the Protestant church were erected, and in 2007 - the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, which became the decoration of the city. An important historical and political object in Bereza was the German cemetery with the graves of Hitlerite soldiers of the Second World War.
