Biennale of Contemporary Art. Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art

At all times, art unites people. It speaks an understandable and close to all peoples language - the language of images and feelings. Art has an absolutely amazing feature - it helps people communicate and interact, without depriving them of individuality.

The main theme of this 6th biennial of contemporary art in Moscow was the idea of cooperation and commonwealth. "How to live together? A glance from the center of the city in the heart of the island of Eurasia "is the name of the forum, which lasted 10 days, perfectly reflects the desire of organizers and participants with the help of art to comprehend the basic problem of the modern world.

Events and people

Biennale - so traditionally called festivals of art and culture. As the name implies, they are held every two years. The Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, the sixth for the last 12 years, has become a landmark event in the culture of Eastern Europe.

The festival was held September 22 - October 1 at VDNH, and exhibitions, forums, performances and meetings took not only the entire Central Pavilion, but also in the framework of the "parallel program" were held in many exhibition halls and galleries of the capital. In total for the 6th Biennale of Contemporary Art, about 40 exhibition grounds were allocated in Moscow.

Organizers and participants of the festival events

The curators of the project were De Báré of Antwépen, Austrian Nikolaus Schafhausen, who heads Kunsthalle, and Defné Ayas, head of the Center for Contemporary Arts in Rotterdam

The Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art was established in 2003 by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. Its organizers were also FAKK and ROSIZO. Since the 2nd Biennale of Contemporary Art, a specially established art fund has joined the organizers, and a little later the government of the capital.

In the main pavilion of the 6th Biennale of Contemporary Art in Moscow, over seventy representatives of culture and art, press officers and critics met. At exhibitions, meetings, discussions, the most important issues of our time were posed, primarily related to the problem of coexistence of cultures.

Projects and Guests 6 Biennale of Contemporary Art

Along with the basic project, the programs of guests invited to the forum were presented in the festival, for example, Anisha Kapur from India, Mikhalya Rovner, Yevgeny Antufiev, French artist Louise Bourgeois and others.

Within the framework of the "Special Projects" exhibitions were presented. They were held at various venues in Moscow. Among the most interesting are the "Wings of Eurasia", held in the Museum of Decorative and Applied Art. An unusual exposition "Metageneography", on which geographic maps were presented - works of artists of different time, was deployed in the Tretyakov Gallery. And in the exhibition hall on Kashirka there was a bright and entertaining festival "To see the sound".

Interaction in the rhythm of creativity

Are there actually those universal values that have been talked about so much in the recent past? This issue was key to the forums of the Biennale of Contemporary Art. Moscow in the days of the festival was a huge platform for real cross-cultural studies, the results of which were interpreted by guests from a variety of positions.

The seriousness of the approach and the desire of the people of art to participate in the solution of the primary problems of society attracted the attention of representatives and other areas far from painting, sculpture, literature and music to the Biennale: sociologists, economists, historians and political scientists.

Faces of art of Eurasia

Despite the importance of discussions and discussions, the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art is primarily a festival of creativity, therefore the main guests and participants of the projects were artists from different countries of Europe and Asia, and the main events were exhibitions and performances.

Creativity of individual masters and studios from France, Greece, Germany, China, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Russia, Ukraine and other countries was presented at more than one hundred exhibitions.

Ambiguous and not always close to the ordinary spectator of contemporary art, however, shook its expressiveness, eccentricity and consonance with the problems of modernity. In addition, open meetings were organized with artists such as Maya Van Lempute, Suchan Kinoshita, Simon Denis, Burak Arikan, who allowed them to better understand the ideas and thoughts that motivate them to creativity, in whatever form they were presented.

Art as a process

It was possible to see the work of artists and in the process of creating works by them. Artists from Russia, France, China, Ukraine worked on the open areas of the Biennale of Contemporary Art.

So massively the direct creative process has never been introduced in Russia. This endless, sometimes seemingly chaotic event series could not be better reflected modern reality. At the same time, the action that takes place on the venues of the Exhibition of National Economic Achievements and abroad, resembled a single colossal performance.

Biennale of Contemporary Art, Ekaterinburg

Moscow is not the only Russian city that provides its own platforms for holding such mass events. In autumn 2015, the third Ural Biennale of Industrial Art was held in Yekaterinburg.

Its main project included two exhibitions devoted to different aspects of the concept of "Mobilization", which meant the ability to change, the abandonment of the obsolete and the transition to a new stage.

These exhibitions were prepared by curators of the biennale of Li Zhenhua (Beijing) and Bilyana Chirich from Shanghai.

Ekaterinburg Biennale is called industrial not by chance. Mostly it demonstrated art reflecting the problems of an industrial society, and many sites were represented by factories and enterprises in the region, including the Sysert Factory of Art Porcelain, the Castles Casting Factory.

The Ural Industrial Festival lasted three months and was held in 10 cities of the region. During this time, more than 100 thousand people visited the exhibition. Thus, the inhabitants of the Urals region had the opportunity to come in contact with the beautiful, which is hidden in clear lines and laconic forms of industrial products.
