Autosave in Word: MS Word 2007 and newer versions

An unplanned power outage, a malfunctioning technique or an accidental cancellation of the save - and an important report or a large amount of text is irretrievably lost. But is it so irreparable? Autosave in the "Vord" saved more than one user who, by will of circumstances or his own inattention, canceled the preservation of the document. The program automatically saves the files that are being edited, every ten minutes.

Default Settings

Autosave in Word 2007 and all other versions of the common office program is enabled by default. If everything works smoothly and without delays, then the user does not even notice the operation of the function. The information that the document was automatically saved every ten minutes appears on the bottom of the program, where the statistics buttons are located, the scale bar and modes slider (web page, reading, markup mode), as well as the language and the current page .

It is important that you should not completely replace the standard saving of documents (the "File" command, and then "Save as ...") automatically. This is only an emergency measure, which can not be used as the main method of conservation. The function of the function may fail, so automatic document recovery is best done only in case of real need.

When the auto-save function is enabled, if any malfunction occurs, you can lose the maximum of the last ten minutes of operation. And even less - it all depends on the time of the last save. The default parameters can be changed manually, so that autosave in the "Word" occurred more often or less often.

Manually setting autosave

In any version of the office program, the automatic document saving feature can be configured independently, depending on the needs of the particular user. "Ворде"? How do I configure auto-save in Word?

In the new versions (2010-2016) for the configuration, open the "File" tab, select "Options", and then "Save". The checkbox for enabling the function is set in the lines "Auto-save every X minutes" and "Save the last version when closing without saving". In the first line X should be replaced by the required frequency of saving the document in minutes.

In Word 2007, the function is turned on differently: you need to press the round button of Microsoft Office, then select "Save", mark the item "Enable auto-save" and specify the required frequency. There you can change the place where the files will be automatically saved.

Restore an autosaved document

After a failure in operation, auto-save in the "Ward" on the next start will prompt you to restore the missing document the next time you start the office program. Typically, the window that appears to the left of the blank sheet contains an enumeration of all versions of the document or only the last save is displayed. Clicking on one of the available files, you can restore the document. Be sure to save after the appearance of the missing text on the screen in the usual way.

Also, the lost files can be found in the "backup" folder. Its location can be found in the "Parameters" (the "Save" tab) by calling the "File" menu. You need to copy the address to the clipboard (Ctrl + C), and then paste (Ctrl + V) the path into the address bar of the standard explorer.

What can be the problem

Weak computers with old stuffing or a small amount of free memory can behave badly during autosave: get stuck, lag and pester with requests. Even the standard periodicity sometimes causes delays, which considerably slows down the work on the document, which is to say that when Word auto-save is made every one or two minutes.

An alternative method used to not lose files in case of unexpected failures is to transfer work with documents to cloud storages. Google Docs, for example, allows you to create in-line text documents, presentations and tables with the ability to access them from any computer and collective access (reading or commenting) at the author's permission.

Autosave in the "Word" is often stuck, and the service from the information giant quickly preserves every improvement of the file, does not slow down and is characterized by a concise design with all the necessary functions. Another alternative is Microsoft Office Online. The online version limits some features, but in principle it works well.
