Arthur Conan Doyle: "The Hound of the Baskervilles." Summary
According to the story, Sherlock Holmes will investigate the mysterious death of Sir Charles Baskerville. In the apartment on Baker Street, 221-B comes James Mortimer, who is a doctor in a small parish in Devonshire. He is concerned about the sudden death of one of his patients. The body of Sir Charles Baskerville was discovered in the park of his own estate. Despite the fact that everything spoke of a natural death caused by a progressive heart disease, the doctor was alert, namely giant dog tracks near a lifeless body. The deceased himself was deeply convinced that there is a dog of the Baskervilles - a creation of mystical origin, haunting his race for several centuries. The opinion of Sir Charles was shared by farmers from nearby lands, according to which, he himself often had to see a dog burning in hell at night in swamps.
Contrary to his habit, the detective refuses to personally visit the murder site and delegates all powers to Dr. Watson, who is entrusted to accompany Sir Henry everywhere and report on the situation regarding the letters.
During the investigation it is possible to establish that the dog of the Baskervilles is nothing but a mystification behind the authorship of Jack Stapleton's neighbor, who in fact is accounted for by the nephew of the deceased baronet. Stapleton, settling down near the fictional name, managed to get into the confidence in the Baskervilles in order to take possession of the estate. In his time, having learned from the lips of the deceased family legend and remembering the weak heart of Sir Charles, Jack turns into life his cunning plan. Having bought a huge black dog, Stapleton smears it with a special luminous composition and secretly delivers the dog to Baskerville Hall at night.
