In 1632 the Spaniards were pushed back by the English. On the conquered lands, they organized farms for the cultivation of tobacco, coconuts, sugar cane. Worked on the plantations brought them Negro slaves. Slavery on the islands lasted 200 years and 2 years. The country struggled for its independence for a long time and finally, in 1981, it achieved it.

The deer is chosen as the animal symbol of the country, and the national symbols are the coat of arms, anthem and flag. Antigua and Barbuda flag have, unlike any other in the world.
