A small historical reference

Airport "Peski" (Petrozavodsk) was serviced even before the Second World War. In the 1940s, flights to some cities of the USSR were carried out from here: Leningrad, Shungu, Vyborg or Pudozh. In the 1950s and 1960s, flights were also made from time to time on the An-12 and Yak-12 planes to various centers of Karelia. In addition to cruising along Karelian land, flights were also made to the airfields of nearby regions. Since the mid-1990s, passenger communications have existed on lines to Pudozh and Kalevala. In addition to the above-mentioned flights, the operator carried out cargo transportation, sanitary, aerial photography and other works using An-2 and Mi-1, Ka-26 and Mi-8 helicopters. The current operator of the airport is the State Unitary Enterprise "North-Western Air Base", which was established by order of the Ministry of Forestry of the RSFSR, whose purpose was to detect and combat forest fires. At the disposal of the base there are An-2 and Mi-8 helicopters. In 2009, the Federal Air Transport Agency granted the air base access to various air transport operations. Today in the period from November to May flights are realized by helicopter Mi-8 to Kizhi, Pudozh, and also Senna Guba. They are designed to move tourists who regularly visit these holy places.
