Acid-resistant tiles: characteristics and application

Acid-resistant tiles have unique qualities. It is able to act as a reliable protection of surfaces from their interaction with chemically active aggressive compounds. After the cladding, the base becomes resistant to high temperatures. This tile is often used when it is necessary to finish the structures that are in the conditions of constant temperature changes. This material can be used both in domestic and industrial premises, where walls or floors can come into contact with acids or alkali.

Preparatory work

If acid-resistant tiles are laid in industrial premises, then use material that has an increased acid resistance (up to 98%). Initially, an interlayer that is resistant to aggressive action should be created. In the role of its binding component, it is recommended to use liquid glass. Fillers for acid-resistant mixtures are prepared using rocks of the appropriate action, such as andesite, marshalite or others, which contain silica.

In solutions and mastics, the density of the liquid glass should be 1.38 g / cm 3 or more. The substrate is cleaned before work is done, dried and covered with a primer. Stacking of acid-resistant tiles should not begin before its underside is covered with acid-proof composition. The solution should not be stacked excessively thick - no more than 10-15 millimeters, the seams should also be obtained as thin as possible. Grout can be prepared independently, using sulfur cement. The surface of the floor should not be humidified, otherwise the liquid glass will dissolve.

Installation of acid-resistant tiles

Acid-resistant tiles should be laid on a flat base, which is especially important for floors that will be affected by aggressive compounds. After all, if the floor is uneven, the harmful substances will accumulate in certain places. Alignment in household conditions can be carried out by laying the screed. It is recommended to start the installation of the elements either from the center of the room or from a far corner in relation to the doorway. In doing so, you should use a level that will allow you to control the horizontal layout of the finish.

You will have to use a wooden hammer, which helps to install each product in its final place. Crosses will control the width of the seams. It is important to choose the right adhesive before starting work. He, too, must be particularly resistant to aggressive environments and to non-standard mechanical loads.

Acid-resistant tiles in the process of laying should be cleaned from drops of glue that can get to the surface of the products, otherwise the composition after drying will be difficult to get rid of. A few days after the completion of the installation of the tile, you can move on to the grouting process. Mixture for this, too, must have the quality of durability, because it depends on how well the seams are protected, the durability of the entire coating will depend. For this step, it is possible to use the composition with which the laying was carried out.

Advantages of ceramic acid-resistant tiles

Ceramic acid-resistant tiles are distinguished by the fact that it is not slippery at all. On the surface of this material can be installed massive production equipment, as well as heavy equipment, which makes products of this kind indispensable in the shop. The effect of temperatures does not cause the finish to change its original dimensions. And if necessary, to make the floor sanitary safe it is necessary to use acid-resistant tiles. This allows the use of such coatings in premises intended for the pharmaceutical or food industry. In addition, ceramic acid-resistant tiles are very easy to clean.

Tools and materials

The laying of the described tiles will not be possible without the use of some tools and materials, among them there are the following:

  • Notched trowel;
  • glue;
  • Grout;
  • Wooden hammer;
  • level.

Cost of acid-resistant tiles

The described material can have different sizes, which also affects the final price. For example, acid-resistant tiles (GOST 961-89), whose dimensions are limited to 300 x 300 x 20 mm, will cost 440 rubles. For 1 m 2 , but the square meter of acid-resistant chamotte wares costs 520 rubles.

Acid-resistant coating has many advantages, but it costs more than conventional tiles. Therefore, before purchasing this option, it is necessary to decide whether it is necessary to create a strong foundation if it is not subjected to serious stresses, since it is not advisable to overpay in this case.
