A basket made of newspaper tubes made by own hands

Weaving is very interesting. A person can realize his creative potential at leisure, creating various useful original things. A basket of newspaper tubes, a breadcrumbs, a box for storing dirty laundry is not a complete list of what can be weaved. In addition, this hobby is almost cost-free, because the material from which various items are created are ordinary newspapers that we find in our mailboxes.

Making tubes from newspapers

The basket of newspaper tubes is made according to the principle of weaving baskets of twigs. The difference is only in the material used in the weaving. Therefore, it is important to first prepare the tubes. To do this, cut the newspaper into strips about ten centimeters wide on the long side, then put the knitting needle on the lower left corner of the newspaper strip at an angle of 45 degrees and tighten it tightly. The remaining edge of the strip is fixed with glue. The basket of newspaper tubes can be of a variety of shapes and sizes, so it is difficult to say exactly how many tubes will be needed to make it.

The process of weaving the base of the basket

The basket is most easily carried out from newspaper tubes with a square or rectangular base. First, take 10 tubes and put them next to each other in parallel. The next tube should be laid perpendicular to this top ten on top of them, and then gently pull each even one out of 10 up. We take another one and begin to weave it over the first one, bringing up an odd number of dozens of tubes - in checkerboard order. If it is decided to weave a basket of newspaper tubes with a square base, then after laying the tenth transverse row, one should proceed to decorating the walls of the craft. For a basket with a rectangular base, slightly more transverse rows are made. A slightly modified technology is required for the round base. When the master has a 10x10 grid, the next tube needs to be weaved already in a circle, turning the base and "smoothing" the corners of the square. It is necessary to try to achieve the shape of the circle.

Basket Weaving

When we weave a basket of newspaper tubes, often in the process the product breaks up into details. To prevent this from happening, it is recommended from time to time to fasten the workpiece with a stapler or glue. Having received the necessary size of the base of the future basket, it is necessary to lift the tubes upwards and continue to tightly weave in a circle in the walls of the basket. To achieve the required density, you need to weave the elements as close as possible to each other. After the end of the tube, insert one more into its bell, lubricating the joint with glue. When the desired height is reached, with the help of a spoke, the remaining tips of the tubes are refilled inside the basket. You can draw a woven handle for the basket or make a lid, which is fixed with rubber bands or rope loops.

Design of wickerwork

The process of design entirely depends on the master. It is possible to cover the basket with stain upon completion of work with a sponge or brushes. There is a variant of painting the product with acrylic paint, diluted in equal proportions with PVA glue. It is necessary to put several layers: both for beauty, and for durability. And you can take paper napkins with a picture and paste to the finished product.
