5 character traits, which, according to scientists, prolong life

Can you boast of friendliness, openness or emotional stability? Dozens of large studies conducted among older people in different regions of the world have come to the conclusion that these and other traits are associated with an increase in life expectancy. What should be a person to live long? Let's talk about this in more detail.

Honesty

Nearly 300 couples who participated in a long-term study that lasted 75 years showed this feature. During the experiment the team of scientists asked in detail the friends of the spouses about their positive and negative character traits. It turned out that male participants, described as conscientious, lived longer than their research colleagues. Each decade the questionnaire with questions was changed and supplemented. Another similar study, conducted in California between 1930 and 2000, confirmed these findings for both men and women.

Openness

Another clear favorite of the 75-year study, about which we spoke at the very beginning, was called openness. It is this character trait that can prolong your life. Men who highly appreciated this quality demonstrated to their relatives the readiness to adopt new ideas and change something. Another study, conducted in the early 21st century, studied the main features of the character of Japanese centenarians aged between 100 and 106 years. And in this experiment, openness was at the top of the list. Scientists suggest that this quality helps older people to better adapt to new conditions: age-related diseases, changes in appearance or loss of loved ones.

Emotional stability

Not all qualities of long-livers are equally characteristic for both men and women. If the strong sex can not do without good faith, then the beautiful half of the long-livers is emotional stable. Scientists indicate that the results are related to the long-term experiment. For example, in the 30s of the 20th century, many women were described by their contemporaries as unbalanced. Now we know that emotional stability can bring good for our physical health.

Friendliness

Another characteristic "female" trait is friendliness. This discovery is supported by several studies. It's no secret that women on average live longer than men. One recent experiment involved 243 men and women aged 95 to 100 years, three-quarters of whom were long-livers. Each of the participants talked about their own characteristics. Friendliness was called the overwhelming majority.

Ability to express feelings

In addition to the fact that long-livers characterize ease of communication and extraversion, these people also have an excellent sense of humor and openly express their emotions in communicating with other people. It is difficult to say whether these qualities were innate or acquired, because the study, on the basis of which conclusions were drawn, did not consider the characteristics of participants in earlier stages of life.
