"Yaroslav the Wise" patrol ship "Russian Navy: characteristics and photos"

The effectiveness of the navy depends on the balance of its composition and the characteristics of the ships entering it.

The series "Undaunted"

Ships under the code "Hawk" came to replace the watchmen of the series 1135 "Burevestnik." The first-born of the series was "Neustrashimy", laid down on the slipways of Kaliningrad in 1987. In his name, the whole short series of ships of the same type is named. While it includes only the guard ship Yaroslav the Wise and the third ship of the series, which is on completion.

According to the classification of ships adopted in the Soviet Union, these are patrol vessels capable of acting not only independently, but also as part of a squadron. The older classification ranked them as escort destroyers. From the point of view of Western experts, these ships belong to the class of frigates.

The patrol ship "Yaroslav Mudry" was laid back in Soviet times, in 1988. For a long time it was on conservation because of problems with financing the defense complex. Only in 2009, the Russian Navy flag was raised above its stern.

general review

The watchman is intended to provide anti-aircraft, anti-submarine defense squadrons and formations, for the application of missile and artillery strikes both for sea and for ground targets.

The distinction of the series, to which the patrol ship Yaroslav the Wise belongs, is the presence of the Ka-27 sea-based helicopter on board. It allows for reconnaissance at a considerable distance from the ship, to search for and independently attack enemy submarines. The helicopter can provide target designation for a missile anti-ship complex.

The "Yaroslav the Wise" patrol ship "The Navy of Russia has a range of three and a half thousand sea miles with an autonomy of thirty days. It is determined on the basis of food supplies on board for a crew of two hundred and fourteen, including twenty-seven officers.

"Yaroslav Mudry": the characteristics of the hull and power plant

The silhouette of the ship attracts attention with the aggressive outlines of an elongated bow with an artillery tower mounted on it. Under the stem, a domed part of the nose structure is visible, which improves the running characteristics. It has an antenna of the hydroacoustic complex.

The length and breadth of the ship is somewhat larger than that of the watchmen of the previous series "Burevestnik". It is equipped with a system of calming the pitching, improving the habitation and conditions of the use of weapons.

The "Yaroslav the Wise" patrol ship has an extensive superstructure, designed to ensure minimal radio visibility of the ship. In the stern of the guard there is a hangar for an anti-submarine helicopter with a fuel depot, weapons and everything necessary for successful application.

On the ship there are two gas-turbine units mounted on each shaft, propelling the propellers. One is designed for economical navigation, the second allows you to move in the forced mode at speeds of up to thirty knots, or fifty-five kilometers per hour.

Rocket and artillery armament

The shock power of the frigate is impressive. The tower artillery system has a caliber of one hundred and thirty millimeters and crowns a developed half-tank, which distinguishes the patrol ship Yaroslav the Wise. The TTX installation allows firing on all types of targets, including striking such complex ones as anti-ship missiles.

Behind the gun turret are containers with launchers of anti - aircraft missiles near the "Dagger" zone, drowned almost to the level of the deck. They allow you to destroy all types of air targets at a range of up to twelve kilometers. Air-defense capabilities are reinforced by two post-antiaircraft missile system "Kortik", located in the stern. The guns of the complex can effectively hit both surface and ground targets.

The main striking weapons, which the patrol ship Yaroslav Mudry has, are anti-ship missiles of the Uran complex. Launchers with four missiles in each are placed along each side. The range of the missiles is 260 kilometers.

The missile of the complex attacks the target, moving at a height of up to fifteen meters above sea level. Going to the battle area of the trajectory, it is further reduced to three to five meters from the water. The low attack profile and speed, close to the sound, makes the interception of the rocket a difficult task.

Anti-submarine capabilities

The reconnaissance of the situation is carried out by the ship's hydroacoustic station. Based on the patrol helicopter extends capabilities through the use of towed acoustic systems.

In addition to a helicopter capable of carrying anti-submarine weapons, the Yaroslav Mudry watchdog can use the Vodopad missile system and the Smerch bomb installation. The missile complex is capable of destroying underwater objects at a range of up to fifty kilometers. Depth bombs can reach a depth of four hundred and fifty meters at a distance of up to six kilometers from the ship.

The ship provides protection against saboteurs by means of two ten-barrel grenade launchers. They are able, guided by the data of the descending hydroacoustic complex, to conduct automatic shooting until the threat is completely eliminated.

Combat Service

The absence of military actions at sea does not mean the disappearance of combat missions. Each campaign or patrol is part of the activities that ensure the security and defense of the country. The patrol ship Yaroslav the Wise took part in the fight against pirates of the Indian Ocean, guaranteeing the protection of international trade routes.

Together with TAKR, "Peter the Great" carried out a military campaign from the Baltic Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. During this operation he provided protection and defense of the aircraft carrier group and escort ships. He carried out the tasks of demonstrating the flag in the patrol zone. Currently, the ship is in repair docks at the Yantar shipyard.
