Travelers who go to the mountains in Gelendzhik notice that their relief is not uniform. In some places closer to the sea, they form dangerous cliffs, while in others, on the contrary, they represent flat areas.

Water in the mountains

People who gather in the mountains in Gelendzhik are surprised at how many rivers take their origin here. The longest of them is Pshada, whose length is 33 kilometers. In addition to it, there are riverbeds of such rivers as Mieseb, Janet and Adebra.

Surprisingly, the weather, as well as the changing seasons of the year, have a great influence on the nature of the water bodies. In summer, when the flow of many rivers ceases to be intense, some of them dry up. However, as soon as autumn comes into its own and the river often feeds heavy rain, all water expanses wake up, and their current becomes turbulent. In this state, they move from the beginning of autumn to the end of spring.

Downpours not only cause rivers to move faster. Numerous waterfalls, numbering more than seventy objects, often wake up after heavy rains. The most beautiful waterfalls, which every person, going to the mountains in Gelendzhik should visit, are those that are on the largest rivers of this mountain massif. Among them are the Pshad and Achib waterfalls. There are a number of other water objects bearing more poetic names, such as "The Bowl of Love" and "The Emerald." These waterfalls are on the river Jan and are very picturesque.

Mount Sail

Everyone who gathers in the mountains in Gelendzhik, must necessarily visit a rock called Sail, to make the trip memorable. This monument of nature is fraught with many mysteries. One of them is a small hole located above the base. It is believed that it appeared due to the bullet that broke through the mountain during the war between Russia and the Omani empire. There is a legend that it was to the rock under the poetic name of Parus that the defender of people from the gods, Prometheus, was chained.

To get to this nature monument, which received its status in the 1970s, there are several ways:

  • On foot. Then the path will lie across the beach.
  • On a boat. This tourist vessel departs from Gelendzhik daily, there is necessarily a guide on it.
  • By car you can reach the place located near the cliff. And then you should go on foot.

Mount Sail in Gelendzhik is a popular place. Its atmosphere attracts not only tourists, but also creative people, for example, writers and artists.

Mount Olympus

Mount Olympus in Gelendzhik is one of the most popular peaks of the whole massif. It rises above the sea by almost seven hundred meters, because of what it is inaccessible for hiking. However, this problem was successfully solved: in Gelendzhik there is a ropeway called "Olympus".

At the foot of this mountain is an amusement park. Visiting it, tourists can see the aviary not only with turtles, but also with crocodiles. There is also a full-fledged hall for various concerts. On Mount Olympus there is a park in which a disco zone, a ferris wheel and an observation deck. From here you can view the whole of Gelendzhik, which from a bird's eye view is a bay in the shape of a horseshoe. At night, it is lit by hundreds of street lamps and lights.

Tourists have the opportunity to enjoy not only scenic views of nature, but also other entertainment. So, on the mountain called Olimp, various thematic festivals are often held.
