What is ping, its features

All users of the global network face ping every day, but do not know what ping is, and how it is used on the Internet, why are the indicators of such a program so important to some users? First of all, it is worthwhile to understand that ping is a certain delay, which is calculated in milliseconds and shows the time of data transfer from the user to the server, it can be, respectively, more or less. In the first case, there are a number of problems, for example, with the brakes in the game among modern gamers. After all, the response of the central server can be too long, so the receiving computer will not be able to show real events at the moment.

This utility is very useful, because you can always view its changes, and at very high elevations - call and talk about it to the provider, call a specific number and ask to take measures to reduce the value of this number. Also for this purpose it is possible to optimize the throughput of a PC or stop using programs that use too much traffic and slow down the system.

If you go deeper into the details, then to the question of what ping is, you can academically answer that it is a program that works on the TCP / IP protocol. During its operation, an echo packet (ICMP) is sent to the required network interface, after which the echo packet is expected to arrive in the same ICMP format. At the same time, the waiting time is measured, this gives a clear picture of the system's response, and the possibility of connection is also revealed.

It can be assumed that it affects the ping port and the IP address, because it is from these parts that the endpoint of the connection consists (in another way, it can be called as a socket). The concept of a port is used for a network stack at the application level.

To find out the ping for a particular resource, you just need to go to the command line and type the command: "ping server". The last word should be replaced with the address of the site or server to which you want to contact. If the user wants to watch all the time after the delay, then the "ping server -t" command is used. Naturally, even such users, who have no idea what ping is (and there are many of them), use it every day, simply by visiting their favorite Internet resources.

Also there is another very convenient tool - tracing. The command is similar to working with the ping utility, but the difference is that it outputs not only a temporary delay to the console, but also a list of servers that are on the way to the required source. To do this, enter "tracert server", where the last word, of course, is replaced by the desired address.

Advanced users are well aware of what ping is, and it's no wonder. This tool is very useful for those who actively use the Internet, and these in our time the vast majority. The ping utility allows you to identify connection failures and specifically display this in numbers. If the latter are absent, it means that the requested address is not active at the moment.
