Vegetative reproduction of plants in nature and plant growing

The process of vegetative propagation of plants is based on their high ability to regenerate, that is, to restore from one part of the whole organism. In this case, the daughter plants inherit all the signs of the mother, including valuable varietal qualities.

Vegetative reproduction of plants is carried out with the help of various organs, both specialized (tubers, bulbs, rhizomes), and unspecialized (leaves, stems).

In the wild, vegetative propagation of plants is widespread. Some species are very rarely propagated by seeds. These include bulbous, lily of the valley and many others. The strong underground rhizomes of wild grass make this weed almost invulnerable. No weeding does not allow you to completely get rid of it, but it's all about the numerous buds of renewal, which are literally filled with rhizomes. Of these kidneys, the plant can recover, even if a piece of a couple of centimeters in length remains in the soil.

Forest strawberries reproduce with stalks (mustaches), which are a kind of above-ground shoots. The whiskers take root in the nodes, and out of the subordinate buds young plants develop, which soon begin to live independently. Some trees can also reproduce in a vegetative way. Often broken branches of willows and poplars, getting into a moist environment, take root and form full-fledged plants. It is not uncommon for cases when willow sticks thrust into the ground as a fence, start up roots and turn into trees. And the reason for everything is the vegetative reproduction of plants, which sometimes manifests itself in the most amazing forms. Popular in floriculture flocky, which is popularly called a money tree, easily reproduces leaves. Under favorable conditions on the leaf petiole, roots are formed, and after them a new plant is formed. And it is not even necessary to create special conditions for this - often the leaves fall to the ground and take root themselves.

The vegetative reproduction of plants has received wide application in the practice of plant growing. This is an opportunity to get more harvest in a shorter period than the seed method. A popular example is the reproduction of potatoes by tubers or strawberries with mustaches (stools). And in case you need to multiply a young specimen, the flowering and fruiting of which will not come soon, the vegetative method is simply irreplaceable. It is used to produce a huge number of plants - herbaceous perennials and annuals, deciduous trees and shrubs, and even conifers.

Artificial vegetative propagation of plants is especially important in cases when it is necessary to preserve varietal characters of complex hybrids. There are a variety of methods for this multiplication: cuttings, bush division, rooting of layers, grafting, use of tubers, bulbs, rhizomes, daughter outlets, leaf cuttings.

In indoor floriculture, vegetative reproduction is most often used to obtain plants, examples of which can be seen on ordinary home window sills. Living in urban apartments in flats, senpolia, dienenbachia, pelargonium, ferns, begonias, figs and many other plants, as a rule, are obtained in a vegetative way. And it is not surprising, because it is much easier to put the shank in the water or plant it in the soil, pretreated with a stimulator than to tinker with seeds, the germination of which is often in question.

Vegetative reproduction is a valuable invention of nature, which is actively used in modern plant growing and has a number of advantages over the seed method.
