Trukhanov Island: a recreation area in Kiev

This wonderful place is on the left bank of the Dnieper, opposite the historical and architectural center of the capital of Ukraine. It is washed not only by the Dnieper, but also by its tributary - Gingerbread. The total area is 450 hectares. On the opposite coast of Trukhanov, the island is connected by a bridge.

From the history of the island

Its name was given to this land thanks to Tugorhana - the Polovtsian khan, who is better known by the bylinas and chronicles as Tugarin the serpent. In those distant times Truhanov Island was the residence of his daughter, who was married to the Kiev prince Svyatopolk the Second. Even earlier on the island was the settlement of Olzhischi, which belonged to the famous princess Olga. In the XVI century the island passed into the possession of the Desert-Nikolsky Monastery, but at the end of the XVII century it was returned to the city.

It began to re-colonize in the XIX century. It was at this time that the first buildings and workers' settlements appeared. Officially, they were allowed to live here only in 1907, when more than 100 people already lived here. At this time, Truhanov Island had on its territory a yacht club, the Hermitage park, a shipyard. A little later, a small church of St. Elizabeth was built here. During the war, all the buildings were destroyed on the island. Gradually it turned into a place of rest for the townspeople.

Trukhanov Island in our days

Today, here are the largest beaches of the Ukrainian capital, restaurants, water stations and recreation centers. In the north there is the Park of Peoples' Friendship and the Bobrovnya Nature Reserve.

Beauty of the island

For a very long time this island has attracted to its expanses of Kiev and tourists from other cities. Believe me, there is something to see: the nature of this paradise corner is preserved almost in its original form.

Matveyevsky Bay

There are sports facilities, where rowers train. The bay was named in honor of the rector of Kiev University Matveev, who once was its owner.

Drainage channel

It was created artificially, especially for rowers. This is a very picturesque place: in July on the watery surface you can see the flowering of real lilies.

Trukhanov Island in Kiev: how to get there

The nearest metro station is Pochtovaya Ploschad. From this stop along the waterfront you need to get to the pedestrian bridge and on it to go to the island. If you go by car, then it's better to visit the island from the Moscow bridge.

Holidays on the island

Here Kiev and the guests of the Ukrainian capital enjoy spending time with pleasure. There is an official beach at the Footbridge and small "semi-wild" beaches of Matveyevsky Bay.

Trukhanov Island in Kiev is an oasis of wildlife, that's why thousands of Kyivans go here on weekends. Unfortunately, Trukhanovskie beaches are not the safest place: judging by the results of research, water is not too suitable for swimming.

There are several cafes and bars here. There is a school for young rowers and a riding section on the island.

Most tourists come for the beach entertainment on Truhanov Island. Recreation base with the same name is a complex that provides a variety of services to its guests. There are two outdoor pools, the water in which is filtered and disinfected. This base is permanently rented to its employees by such companies as Fora supermarket chain, Inter TV channels and Novyi Kanal channel, large companies Nebesna Krinitsa, Magnatek and others.

In the complex "Truhanov" you can perfectly relax in the open air and do your favorite sport. It is possible that someone just wants to lie in the sun by the pool or on the beach.

Here you can organize a banquet, celebrate a jubilee or relax with colleagues in an informal atmosphere.

Swimming pools of the complex "Trukhanov"

Many prefer to rest at artificial reservoirs. For lovers of organized leisure in the complex there are:

  • A large swimming pool (length 25 meters, depth about 2 m);
  • Pool for children (depth 1 m);
  • Pool with a water slide (depth 1.5 meters).

Especially I would like to mention the beach in the complex "Trukhanov". The island has several beaches, but, perhaps, only this is maintained in an ideal condition: always clean sand and running water. Employees of the recreation center closely monitor the condition of the bottom in the pond, preventing the occurrence of underwater pits and debris.

If you want to go on a wild summer day, come to Truhanov Island. We are sure that you will not regret the trip.
