Tomatoes: cultivation and care, useful advice

Do you have a plot of land and with it an irresistible desire to engage in the cultivation of vegetables and, in particular, tomatoes? We welcome the birth of a beginner gardener, but first we offer to receive some information about what tomatoes are, the cultivation and care for which you will master.

Tomato (tomato) is a herbaceous plant, native to South America and belongs to the family of Solanaceae. As a rule, it is annual, but in conditions of closed ground and under optimal conditions, it can grow and bear fruit for several years.

In our country, it is customary to classify tomatoes in three subspecies: non-stamping (ordinary), large-leaved, and stamping. We grow plants, mostly of the first variety.

Planting tomatoes, growing and caring for them should be carried out, strictly guided by some set of recommendations. Tomatoes are very demanding to light. If it is not enough, the leaves will begin to turn pale, the buds will fall off, and the stems will be stretched and the overall growth of the plant will slow down, especially if you are growing tomatoes in a greenhouse or taking care of seedling in a room.

The need for tomatoes in the water is quite large, at the same time, this plant is drought-resistant. When the temperature drops, it should be stopped completely, even if the soil moisture is insufficient. At the onset of mass ripening of fruits, it is recommended to stop irrigation altogether, especially for cultivars with limited growth - maturing of the crop will come in a friendly manner and the quality of the fruit will increase.

A distinctive property of tomato is that it requires lower humidity, this factor should be taken into account when growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, otherwise the risk of damage to the plant increases dramatically, and pollination of flowers worsens, which will affect in the future the quality and quantity of the crop

If there is a growing of tomatoes in the open ground, the chemical composition of which is unknown, it should be remembered that the main mineral elements for plant nutrition are nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.

Nitrogen promotes growth, if it is small - plants grow slowly, and leaves are pale green. If there is an excess of nitrogen, then there is a process called fattening - the stems are made very powerful, the leaves turn dark green, the plants start to late bloom, and the fruits mature for a long time.

Phosphorus actively influences the development of fruiting organs. Especially sensitive are the tomatoes to the lack of this mineral in the seedlings, then the leaves are painted violet.

Potassium is the most consumed by tomatoes, especially it is necessary during the growth of fruits. A sign of its lack is the curl of the leaves, which can be mistaken for the beginning of the development of late blight.

The main microelements, which exert a huge impact on the growth and development of tomatoes, are manganese, copper, sulfur and magnesium.

Planning to plant tomatoes on the site, the cultivation and care of which involves the collection of a good harvest, it is necessary to give proper attention to the selection of suitable seeds. It is necessary to decide whether for open or closed soil, seeds are needed and which ones should be chosen - varietal or hybrid, because there is a difference between these two concepts.

A variety is a plant derived from a human being, with certain and uniform morphological and biological traits preserved and transmitted during re-generation from generation to generation for many years. The hybrid is obtained as a result of crossing different varieties of plants, purposefully selected. Hybrid plants are more productive, resistant to disease, have the same height, and the fruits, within the inflorescence, are aligned in size and color.

But whatever tomatoes you plant, growing and caring for them will bring you pleasure and a charge of positive energy, especially during harvesting. A cook of these delicious vegetables can be a great variety of dishes, make preparations for the winter and even cook jam.
