The Brazilian system in football - what is it and how did it come about?

To date, there are many different football schemes and constructions. They are used by different trainers around the world. Teams play in three, four or even five defenders. They can set up as three forwards, and none. Some of the schemes are common, others - experimental. At the same time, some of them have already become legendary and have gone down in history. For example, the so-called Brazilian system. Already nobody uses this tactic. However, fifty years ago it was one of the most popular and successful in the world. But what is the Brazilian system?

The essence of this construction

It's no secret that eleven people play on the field from one team. And it is with this number of athletes coaches and have to experiment. One of the most outstanding differences of the new scheme, which was eventually called the "Brazilian system," was the fact that the defenders in the team became one more. Until the fifties of the last century, in most cases, the teams played three fullbacks. While the new construction led to the fact that the defenders were four or two extreme and two central.

To date, such a construction is the most common. Although, as already mentioned earlier, there are teams that play and three defenders. And even at five. Above four fullbacks are played by two central midfielders. And above them a saturated attack line of four attackers is being built. Each of the zones created by the Brazilian system will be described in more detail below. In the meantime, it is worth looking at how it originated.

How did the construction come about?

This construction can be described by a standard digital indicator for football schemes - 4-2-4 (four-two-four). What is it about? It means that in the match four defenders, two midfielders and four attackers are involved. But so no one played until 1950. The appearance of this scheme surprised and amazed the football world. One of the most famous stories concerning this construction and his birth is the arrival of the Hungarian national team to visit the ancestors of the popular game - the English. Until 1953, the England team has never lost any other European team. But then Hungary appeared. She suddenly decided to demonstrate a very unusual tactical approach.

The nominal center of the Hungarian forwards, due to the fact that there were three more people in the line of attack, was drawn almost to the central circle. He led the central defender of the British, who was ordered to patronize him individually. He did not understand what was happening. He was not ready for something like that, so he left behind an empty space, which was used by other Hungarian attackers. As a result, the match ended with a score of 6: 3 in favor of the Hungarians. They were one of the first European players to start playing under a scheme called "four-two-four." This was the beginning of the formation of this construction. At the peak of popularity, it came out in 1958, when the Brazilian national team, using it, won the World Championship. So, it's time to disassemble each zone of the circuit separately to better understand exactly how it functions.

Goalkeeper

Football rules do not prohibit the goalkeeper from participating in field activities. There are goalkeepers, libero. They are not tied to the goal line and act as an additional defender-cleaner. History knows a lot of goalkeepers who were regular penaltists in their teams. And Jose-Luis Chilavert, the goalkeeper of the national team of Paraguay, went down in history by performing even penalty shots for his team.

But with the Brazilian system, the goalkeeper plays an ordinary role. He stands at the gate and must guard them from the missed ball. In principle, in the presence of not three, but four defenders of the need for the goalkeeper to play the role of liberals, not at all. Therefore, there is nothing surprising. Football rules may not prohibit the goalkeeper from stepping outside the penalty area. But nobody will make him either.

Protection

Protective orders in the scheme have changed very much. This formation is also often called the "Revie plan" - in honor of British footballer "Manchester City" Don Revie. He became one of the first and most vivid athletes who played the role of the striker, pulling on himself the central fullback of the opponent. It was already impossible to do this with this kind of defense. After all, the presence of a second central fullback meant that, in the event of an enemy attack, one of them could enter into a fight with the opponent's forward. While the other defender will insure him, that is, holes in the center did not form.

Flanking fullbacks in this scheme, in contrast to modern football, performed basically only a defensive function. They prevented attacks, and also worked on additional insurance for the central defender who played them closer. Tactical constructions in football are constantly evolving. Therefore, now flank defenders often help in the attack. Sometimes they even replace the winger, furrowing the entire crook from their own to someone else's free kick. But under the Brazilian system, the defenders only defended themselves.

Midfield

Two midfielders were given more freedom. They were universal players - they could help protect in destruction, and if necessary go ahead to perform creative work.

Attack

Naturally, the attack changed most of all. The four attackers are incredible power. She let the teams professing this scheme, scoring a lot. But at the same time, the presence of four defense players did not allow them to miss too much. The main figure was one of two central fullbacks. He played a drawn forward. And he led him closer to the center of the field of the central defender of the opponent, in order to give the chance to three other strikers to score a goal.
