Socks with deer - a stylish New Year gift

On the eve of the New Year, we all think what to give to our relatives and friends. One of the most stylish, cozy and warm gifts is knitted socks with deer. If you have more than once held knitting needles and have at least a little experience in knitting, then why not try to create such a winter accessory for someone as a gift? Or for yourself.

History of Norwegian knitting

Clothes with Norwegian patterns are always associated with the weekend spent outside the city, and cozy winter evenings. No wonder that such patterns for knitting with knitting needles appeared precisely in Norway, which does not spoil the warm days.

Women knitted warm sweaters, scarves, hats, socks to their husbands . Patterns were prompted by nature, and the combinations of colors were mostly black, white and gray - the colors of unpainted sheep's wool, from which the yarn was spun. Due to the interlacing of two thick threads of the product, they were very dense and warm, not blown by the cold northern winds.

Since the famous Italian duo Dolce & Gabbana has released a whole collection dedicated to Norwegian designs, they are not out of fashion, and every needlewoman wants to create a product decorated with snowflakes, fir-trees and deer.

One of the simplest products that can be associated with the use of Norwegian patterns - socks with deer. Let's take a closer look at this knitting technique in order to prepare thoroughly for the New Year's Eve.

What will it take to work

Knit socks with deer should start with the choice of model and scheme. Decide on the length, color, type of yarn and the pattern itself.

For work you will need:

  • Yarn at least two contrasting colors: black and white, red and white or dark blue and light gray. Yarn choose soft and not prickly. Typically, 100% wool is very warm, but it has the property of irritating sensitive skin, consider this if you knit socks for free. Socks, knitted from a mixture of wool and acrylic or mohair and acrylic, will be no less warm, but much more gentle and pleasant to the touch.
  • A set of five stocking spokes suitable for yarn size.
  • On request - a thimble for knitting a jacquard. This device is put on the finger of the left hand, and through special spacers, threads of different colors are stretched, so they are not tangled or twisted.
  • Scheme with a picture. The circuit will be much more convenient if you print it out, and mark the already connected elements with a pencil.

How to do the work

Before knitting socks with deer knitting needles, let's remember the basic technique. We begin with the rubber bands. To do this, you need to type the loops, distribute them between the four spokes and tie the rubber band of the required length. Then divide the number of loops into two, one part is the beginning of the heel. We knit the front surface with the height. Now you need to form a heel transition into the sole. Divide the number of loops of the heel by three and in each row, we subtract the loops from the side sections (by tying two) until there is only one central section left.

We continue knitting in a circle. We type on the spokes lateral sides of the heel and knit in a circle to the point where the fingers begin, then you need to close the toe. It can be closed both from two sides, and several sections, according to your desire.

Jacquard patterns usually begin to knit after the elastic on the ankle or on the entire nosochku.

How to knit a jacquard

First you need to choose a pattern that will decorate socks with deer. The scheme is broken down into cells, one cell is one loop. It is important to make the correct calculations so that the picture fits into the product.

Jacquard knit at the same time with two strands, not breaking them during work. The yarn crosses from the wrong side. The more often you do crossovers, the more accurate the product will look from the underside.

The diagrams are read like this: the front row is from left to right, the right one is from right to left, but in our case, each row is read only from right to left, since socks are knitted in a circle. Carefully follow the diagram, and if possible, mark with pencil what has already been tied.

Take into account that the sock with the Norwegian pattern will not practically stretch, this must be taken into account when calculating the size. If the rise of the foot is high, then it is better to make the socks a little freer. Do not tighten the threads too much, because of this deforms the pattern, and the product completely loses its elasticity.

Knit Norwegian jacquard is easy, most likely, this kind of knitting will tighten you. Try, experiment, give yourself and your loved ones warm!
