Single-horned camel

Camelus dromedarius - A single-breasted camel - is a kind of mammal, belonging to the family of camelids. These animals can be found in many areas of Africa and Asia. There is a single-horned camel in these areas as a domestic animal.

When they were tamed, it's hard to say unequivocally today. According to some reports, their domestication took place on the Arabian Peninsula. Most likely this happened in the third millennium before the beginning of our era.

The first mention of camel riders is found on the Assyrian obelisk. There are also images on the reliefs of 661-631 years. BC. E. On them, as a rule, two horsemen on a camel are shown. The one that in front controls the animal, and the second, turning around, shoots from the bow.

As a pet, a single camel camel spread quite late. According to some reports, the domestication of animals probably occurred no earlier than the second half of the 1st millennium BC. Subsequently, the propagation medium was constantly increasing. Most of all, camels were distributed in the desert.

Today, man breeds different breeds of single-horned camels. Each breed performs certain tasks. There is, for example, a plain, mountain one-horned camel.

The name - "dromedary" - is translated from Greek as "running." Unlike other representatives of this family, Camelus dromedarius has higher legs, lighter wool. The single-horned camel has features in the structure of some details of the skull and bony processes in the vertebrae.

The length of the dromedary is about 2.3-3.4 meters. At withers, it can reach from 1.8 to 2.3 meters. Unlike the Bactrian, the Dromedary has one hump. Camelus dromedarius weighs from three hundred to seven hundred kilograms. The tail of a single-horned camel is no more than fifty centimeters long. Typically, the wool has a sandy hue, but there are individuals from white to dark brown. On the top of the head, back and neck, the hair is longer.

Single-horned camels are distinguished by a long neck, extended head. The upper lip has a forked structure, the nostrils are represented in the form of slits, which the animal can close if necessary. One-necked camel has very long eyelashes. On the soles of the feet, knees and in some other places, he has numerous calluses. As with other members of the family, a single-horned camel has only two toes on its legs.

Animals are very adapted to the arid climate. They are able to do without water for a long period, keeping it in their body. The hump on the back contains fat deposits. Their animal uses to get energy. The liquid in camels is stored in the stomach.

It was noted that the body temperature of the animal during the night hours was significantly reduced. In the afternoon, the temperature rises very slowly. This allows the camel not to sweat. During especially dry seasons, the animal can lose more than twenty-five percent of its weight without dying of hunger or thirst. At the same time, the camel drinks very quickly. As a result, in almost ten minutes he can restore lost weight.

The area of distribution of dromedary as pets extends throughout the whole of North Africa, the entire Middle East to India itself. The northernmost point of their habitat is Turkestan. Here, as in Asia Minor, single-horned camels can be found together with the Bactrian.

During the day, the dromedaries are quite active. Those camels that live in the wild, form usually harem groups, in which there are several females, male and offspring. Often, young males are grouped together. But such associations do not last long.

Camels are animal herbivores. They feed on plants of different species, salty and prickly including.
