Quilling technique is the pacifying art of creating paper masterpieces

The quilling technique, which appeared in the Middle Ages, represents a kind of art based on paperwork. In the late 15th century, monks in Europe created original ornaments for icons, boxes and medallions of paper, twisted in a special way. The products of the craftsmen were so thin and skillful that it seemed that the decoration was made of real gold wire. For work, a bird feather was used - "quill", as a result of which the art itself became known as "quilling".

The quilling technique quickly spread throughout Europe. But only the rich ladies could afford to engage in this artifact, since the paper at that time was at a great price. Gradually, interest in paper reduction was dying out, and in the 20th century they completely forgot about it.

At present, medieval art began to revive in Europe and in the countries of Asia. Moreover, oriental masters make more complex works, consisting of a large number of details. In the West, however, the quilling technique is less complex, it is simple and concise.

Paper scrap promotes the development of fine motor skills, forms good taste and soothes. Probably, it is thanks to such properties that the quilling technique is even included in the school curriculum.

Quilling execution technique

To work, you need sharp scissors, glue, double-ended wand, tweezers and a set of special Korean paper. You can also twist ordinary paper, cutting it in thin strips (2-4 mm wide), but it is not as pliable as a special one.

Instead of a double-ended wand, you can use an awl or toothpick. On the selected tool, a strip of paper is closely wound up to form a roller with a diameter of 5 millimeters. After that the workpiece is removed, and the curling continues manually.

Folding the entire tape, the part slightly relaxes, the end of the paper is glued. Then the roller is given the desired shape with the help of finger compression. So, if you pull and press the roller on one side, you get a "drop", on both sides - "eye", etc. The finished part is also fixed with glue.

New Year's toys in quilling technique

The simplest and pretty New Year's handicraft is a snowflake. To create it, you need white or soft blue paper. Twelve identical rollers are produced, half of them are given the form of drops, the other half is the arrow. All the "drops" are glued together with sharp ends to each other, forming a round shape. Further, between the "drops" are glued "arrows". Additionally on the "arrows" you can paste "squares".

Another option - multi-layer snowflakes, which are made from several same-type snowflakes, consisting of parts of the same shape. Connect all the elements on the principle of the pyramid: the largest snowflake serves as a base, it is glued to a small one.

No less common Christmas decoration - an angel. It can be made from 16 "drops" and 3 simple round details (one big and two small). To create the central part of the craft, paper, folded accordion, is used. One of the ends is fixed, the result is something like an inverted fan. A large circle (head) is glued from above, two small (legs) from below. On the sides of the "droplets" are the wings.

And one more symbol of the new year is the Christmas tree. To create it, you need green and yellow paper. From the green 8 pairs of "drops" of different sizes are twisted. The parts are joined in the following way: the largest glued pair of "droplets" is the base, on top of it is attached a pair of "droplets" of smaller size, etc. Crowned top of the tree is a detail made in the form of a star made of yellow paper.

Charming toys made of twisted paper can become an excellent decoration of home interior during the New Year holidays. And if to them to stick a thread in the form of a loop, crafts will turn into decorations for a fur-tree.
