Program for temperature monitoring: computer thermometer

Semiconductors, which are the main material from which modern microcircuits are created, are extremely sensitive to high temperatures. And if you take into account the heat generation level of current central and graphics processors, which sometimes exceeds 100 W, the program for monitoring the temperature of computer components installed in the system seems to be not too superfluous.

In the segment of similar utilities, nowadays there are both highly specialized programs, "sharpened" for the products of certain manufacturers, and unique "combines", which allow monitoring the readings of a huge range of temperature sensors of almost all devices that support this capability.

A separate software module, working as a program for monitoring the temperature of the processor, video card, motherboard and hard drive, is usually part of most utilities for reviewing and diagnosing the computer. The most famous utilities of this class are AIDA 64, HWInfo, ASTRA32. Of course, constantly keep in memory such a "Swiss knife" - quite costly for computer resources, so for permanent use, such products are not very suitable.

The proprietary program for monitoring the temperature of the processor is already an integral part of the discs that motherboard manufacturers of the first echelon put in boxes with their products. As a rule, these products are "sharpened" to work with "native" cards. Also, by experience, I can say that the convenience of the interface such utilities do not shine. The only advantage of such products is practically a 100% guarantee of correct decoding of the temperature sensors.

The next program for temperature monitoring, which is worth considering, is called CoreTemp. This is quite an old project, which has been on the market since 2006. The main advantages of this product are its free, universal and rich functionality. All current processors are supported, while the utility is constantly updated and gets support for new CPUs.

On the manufacturer's website there are such nice bonuses as a gadget for Windows Vista / Windows 7, add-ons for remote temperature monitoring, incl. And from mobile devices, etc. The program works correctly with multi-core processors and is able to display the temperature of each kernel separately and the average data. At the same time the utility is not resource-intensive, due to which it will suit even the owners of not the newest computers.

Of course, this is not the only program for temperature monitoring. Among the known utilities of this class are HWMonitor, SpeedFan, Real Temp, Hmonitor. Some of them support only processors of certain manufacturers (for example, Real Temp works only with Intel processors), some utilities are paid.

If the user needs to track the temperature of the GPU, then the most known program for monitoring the temperature of the video card is somewhat outdated by modern standards, but still an actual utility of RivaTuner. In due time this application was created for fine tuning and overclocking of video cards on the basis of chips from NVIDIA (thus, with some reservations, the program worked perfectly with video processors from ATI). For several years this project has not been developing. But based on his code, there are several other programs, the most famous of which are EVGA Precision and MSI Afterburner. If the first utility is designed to work with video cards from EVGA, then the second one retained the spirit of universality and freedom inherent in RivaTuner. At the same time it is also freeware.

Both major manufacturers of graphics processors as part of their drivers also deliver special utilities that allow "monitor" the state of the video card, including And the temperature of the GPU. But at the same time, strangely enough, the same utility MSI Afterburner "loads" the system is not so much, plus it has more rich functionality.
