At the end of the twentieth century, Russian law enforcement agencies and special army units showed increased interest in such seemingly already forgotten small automatic weapons as the PI (submachine gun). In the 90s, these models began to be developed by employees of design offices in Izhevsk, Tula and Kovrov. Soon, several such samples were presented to the attention of the Russian army and the Ministry of the Interior. Among the most popular models - the pistol-machine gun "Kashtan" AEK-919K (Russia).

History

In the 1990s, the three arms capitals of the Russian Federation - Tula, Izhevsk and Kovrov - received orders from the FSB and the Interior Ministry to produce personal firearms for their employees. At the same time, emphasis was placed on the fact that the size of the new models did not exceed the pistols, but they had a high rate of fire and firepower. By 1994, the employees of the Tula bureau assembled the OC-2 Cypress, Izhevsk constructed the PP-91 Kedr, and in Kovrov a machine pistol AEK-919K "Kashtan" was assembled at the mechanical plant under the leadership of designer Pavel Sedov. The basis for the Russian PP

Since 1940, design work on this type of weapons were not conducted, the USSR did not receive any model of a submachine gun. As a result, gunsmiths who received an assignment from the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to create a domestic PP, had to use foreign analogues in their work. Thus, developing the AEK-919K "Kashtan" submachine gun, the Russian weapon designers used Steyr MPi-69 of Austrian production.

Initially, a small batch of Russian PPs was produced. After the testing of the weapon, shortcomings were found in it. Their correction entailed significant design changes. As a result, a completely new model of automatic small arms was created, which today is known as the pistol-machine gun "Kashtan".

Purpose

The Kashtan submachine gun was used as an auxiliary weapon by the FSB, the Ministry of Justice, special forces of law enforcement agencies and FSO. Also, this aircraft model was armed with crews of aircraft, combat vehicles and army special forces of Russia.

Device

The pistol "Kashtan" has an original design, copied from a foreign analog. In the marching state, the gun is a small metal box that does not resemble a weapon. The design consists of a stamped receiver, equipped with two incision fields, which are used as fore-end. On the cover are installed flies and pillars. Its left side has become a place for the location of the three-position safety fuse. Attachment retractable, containing a turntable, which, if necessary, easily hides in the receiver.

How is the fuse arranged?

The design of the shock-trigger mechanism allows for single and automatic shooting. To change the fire mode, a special flag translator is provided, which is equipped with a PC "Kashtan". A 9 mm submachine gun fires single shot if the interpreter is turned clockwise to the stop. If it is moved all the way to the stop in the opposite direction, the submachine gun will stand on the fuse. How does the shot happen?

Weapon automation uses a free shutter. In order to reduce the size of the submachine gun, the Carpet designers used a shutter circuit that pushed the barrel and covered it from all sides. Before the shot, the bolt must be in the cocked position. To do this, it is fixed on the rear whip of the shock-trigger mechanism.

After the trigger is pressed, the shutter from the sear is broken, and the return spring begins to push it forward. During its movement, the bolt from the magazine grabs ammunition and sends it to the barrel chamber. The shot is carried out after the cartridge hammer is broken by the drummer. Dispersal of the bullet in the barrel is carried out due to the formed powder gases. They press on the bottom of the cartridge case, as a result of which the shutter stops and its movement in the opposite direction. During his retracement, he retrieves the shot sleeve. Clamping the return spring, the bolt is back installed behind the sear. The cycle is repeated again after each press of the trigger.

If the submachine gun is set to fire in the queues, the whisper will remain in the recessed position, and the bolt will not stop until all the ammunition is exhausted in the store.

Extraction of fired shells to the outside is carried out by a spring-loaded ejector. On the damper from the bottom of the guide spring there is a rod reflector, which also takes part in the extraction of the fired sleeves from the chamber. Sights

PP "Kashtan" is able to hit the enemy's living force at a distance of one hundred meters. Especially for these purposes, the weapon is equipped with sighting devices: a full-fledged one and an adjustable fly.

In addition to the submachine gun, you can install a laser pointer / collimator sight. Since this model of weapons is intended for special tasks by special forces, tactical silencers of PMS (low-noise shooting devices) are frequently installed on the SS "Kashtan".

For this, the front parts of the pistols of the "Kashtan" pistols are equipped with special couplings.

About the tactical and technical characteristics

• The submachine gun is intended for firing rounds of 9 mm caliber.
• Weight PP (with a magazine without cartridges) up to 1.8 kg.
• Dimensions of the weapon in the folded position are 335х55х190 mm.

• The height of the PP, equipped with a magazine for 30 munitions, does not exceed 24 cm.

Combat application

AEK-919 submachine guns "Kashtan" in the number of 100 units were used for the first time by the special forces of the Russian FSB in 1995, with the restoration of the constitutional order in Chechnya (the first Chechen campaign). In 2002, the PP entered service with the crew of the Ka-50 "Black Shark" (attack helicopter), carrying out their tasks in Chechnya and Dagestan.

Models

On the basis of the pistol-machine gun "Kashtan" were created three modifications:

• AEK-919. Unlike its analog, this model has a long length and mass. In addition, the receiver in the upper part has a square cross-section, while in the base PC the corners of the box are rounded.
• AEK-918. This is the development of the year 2000. Unlike the analogue, this model is designed for firing cartridges caliber 9x19mm.
• AEK-918v. This submachine gun is considered a prototype for a 9x19 Parabellum ammunition.

Conclusion
