Odessa National Maritime University can be safely called one of the most important high schools in South Palmyra. What faculties are part of the educational institution and what is the cost of studying at the university? Read more about this.

History of the ONMU

Like most higher educational institutions of a technical profile, the ONMU was opened under Soviet power, in 1930. At that time it had the status of an engineering institute and was officially called the Odessa Institute of Water Transport Engineers, the abbreviated version was the EIWT. After the war, the school also underwent some changes in the device and was named "Odessa Institute of Marine Engineers".

The modern view of ONMU was received only in 2002, when he was officially given the status of a national university. Until that time, the structure and traditions of the university have already been formed, which are still preserved today.

Infrastructure of the university

Odessa National Maritime University (ONMU) consists of three academic buildings, in which the entire scientific and educational infrastructure of the higher educational institution is located. Machine, assembly and sports halls, workshops for students of technical specialties, a large library and several research laboratories, not to mention the publishing house at the university with its own printing house - this set can not boast of every Ukrainian university. The area of all buildings and buildings of ONMU is over 50 thousand square meters. Separately, we should also remember about the yacht club, which now has 13 cruising yachts.

Among the positive moments, we can not fail to point out the high level of computerization of the university, it has a lot of modern technology, thanks to which the ONMU has successfully carried out all the curricula and programs in the field of diploma and course projects for several years.

Residents of other cities are provided hostels, and there is also a military department at the university.

Faculty of Odessa National Maritime University

What should I say about the level of education in such an institution as the Odessa National Maritime University? Feedback about the level of teaching is quite positive. More than 5 thousand students today are trained in such specialties as shipbuilding, ship mechanics, port mechanization, water transport and offshore structures, transport technologies and systems, economics and management, law. In addition, the university has a permanent center for pre-university training, where students have the opportunity to take special courses aimed at their preparation for future studies (including the GPA points for these courses), and the faculty for continuing education and postgraduate education - especially for school teachers And teachers.

Specializations for students

The main direction of training in the University is, of course, specialties, one way or another connected with the infrastructure of river and sea transport. At the same time, the student has very wide choice possibilities - from purely technical specializations in studying ship power plants, hydraulic engineering construction to legal aspects and economic logistics of water transport. On the other hand, the expansion of the infrastructure of the university allows the functioning of such specializations as criminal law, economic and mathematical modeling and social philosophy. Most specialties are also available for postgraduate studies and doctorates. Every year the defense of scientific works passes here, scientific research is actively developing. Two commissions for the protection of doctoral works were created and are actively working, first of all for the five scientific branches, the main ones for the university.

Teaching Staff

If we talk about the teaching staff, then at first glance it does not seem very large. So, in the staff of ONMU only 418 teachers, but 59 of them are recognized doctors of sciences, and more than half are candidates. If we take into account the small size of the university, then this percentage seems to be quite impressive. In the staff of ONMU, 35 members of Ukrainian academies of sciences work in various fields on a permanent basis, and two state laureates of all-Ukrainian prizes in the field of science and technology.

The scientific life in the ONMU

Every year on the basis of the University there are both international scientific conferences related to maritime transport issues and student conferences, following which scientific reports are published. There is also a printing house at the university, publishing collections of scientific articles, special periodicals and scientific monographs from university professors.

The cost of training in a university on a contract

The main thing that is worth knowing to applicants interested in such an institution, as the Odessa National Maritime University, is the cost of training within its walls. We are ready to please many - as well as in all other state universities, there is a recruitment to budget places where students are paid scholarships, but the system of study under the contract remains actual. Since for each faculty the tuition fee is different, we present data on the average cost of education in the University: on the bachelor's degree it is 9500 UAH. (20 564 rubles), at the magistracy - 9800 (21 213 rubles.). This is for the day time department. The correspondence will be somewhat simpler: 6,100 (13,204 rubles) for a bachelor's degree and 7,200 (15,585 rubles) for a master's degree. The prices are relatively low, so even if you fail to pass the exams, you will be able to get an education at the Odessa National Maritime University on a contract.

In principle, this is all that a future student should know about such a higher educational institution as the Odessa National Maritime University. What exams should he pass for admission?
