The most common worm, cylindrical, and planetary gearboxes, so we will consider their advantages in relation to each other.

Worm gearboxes. Most often these gearboxes are used in mechanisms that use continuous or repeated operation. Popularity these reducers got for their unpretentiousness and reliability. They have the highest efficiency (more than 90%), and also have low wearability of their basic mechanisms. The main advantages: the shaft of such gearboxes can rotate in all directions, and the gear ratio in any case is the same. Efficiency in this case, as mentioned above, is much better. Speed ranges for all types of operation can vary. Among other things, the tandem is quite low cost and convenience of operation.

Disadvantages: these reducers can only be used under moderate and slowly varying loads. The mechanism of these reducers is relatively capricious, and is not suitable for use in a dusty atmosphere and for work in corrosive environments. In addition, the use of reducers of this type in an explosive atmosphere is strictly forbidden.

Planetary gearboxes. These gearboxes offer optimum performance. Their main properties are compactness and a small mass. It is the planetary gearbox that works in the car windshield wiper. In the industry, planetary gearboxes with a high technical characteristic are often used. Unfortunately, they can not be used for lifting loads.

Based on the analysis of the quality of reducers and gearmotors, it is difficult to make a definite recommendation about the preferences of their specific type. When choosing a reducer, special importance should be given to the expected loads, as well as the use of hazardous media and materials in production. But the choice of such a mechanism as a bonfiglioli reducer will be fully justified in many cases.
