The drug acts on obligate anaerobes, its effect does not apply to aerobic microorganisms, as well as to facultative anaerobes. In the case of the presence of mixed flora, when there are aerobes, and anaerobes, "Metronidazole Nycomed" synergistically acts together with antibiotics.

The use of the drug causes the reduction of the 5-nitro group of metronidazole, which begins to interact with the DNA of microorganism cells. In this case, the synthesis of nucleic acids is performed, as a result of which the bacterium is killed.

After intravenous administration of "Metronidazole Nycomed", after 20 minutes its concentration in the blood begins to increase and its effect lasts for 8 hours. This preparation has a high penetrating ability, very high bactericidal concentration is achieved very quickly both in tissues and in body fluids, namely in the liver, kidneys, skin, cerebrospinal fluid, breast milk, brain, saliva, bile, abscess cavity, Fluid, amniotic fluid, lungs, vaginal secretions.
