The capital of our country is not only the largest city of the country, but also the most significant air facility in Russia. Consider all the Moscow airports - and those that are heard by the whole country, and those that are not known to every indigenous Muscovite.

All Domodedovo terminals are a single complex.
  3. Sheremetyevo. It can be found on the territory of Khimki (north of the capital, following the Leningrad Highway). Through it annually passes 15 million passengers and hundreds tons of various cargoes. This is the second largest passenger traffic in the Russian airport (after Domodedovo). It was built for the USSR Air Force (put into operation in 1957), but already in 1959 it was redesigned into a passenger one. After a relatively recent transformation (2009 - 2010) in Sheremetyevo, terminals B, C, D, E, F.
  4. Ostafyevo. It is located in Podolsky district (not far from South Butovo), mainly used for business flights. Both civilian and military aircraft are based here. Opened in 1934, this airport managed to be visited by the NKVD, the USSR Ministry of Defense, Gazpromavia, eventually becoming open to traffic in 2000. Now on its territory there are 26 aircraft parking lots, service stations, heated hangar complexes.
  5. Zhukovsky. Cargo and test airport; Reconstructed in 2016. At the same time, its passenger terminal with an area of 17 thousand m 2 was opened. Over the past year, it has served 2 million people. While flights to Belarus and Kazakhstan are available.
  6. Chkalovsky. Located in the south-east of the city of Shchelkovo, 31 km from the north-eastern outskirts of the capital. Here, the ships of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation are based, the organization responsible for commercial shipments on military aircraft produces charter civil (and passenger and cargo) flights on single passes. The name of the airport was due to the fact that in 1932 on its territory for the first time landed a bomber aircraft, which was operated by the legendary VP. Chkalov.

Less known airports

List of airports in Moscow and the Moscow region, little known for most passengers:

  1. Bykovo (35 km from the center of the capital) is the oldest Russian airport. Closed for reconstruction. According to other sources, he works for state officials, businessmen, security officials and representatives of special services.
  2. Drakino (Serpukhov district) is the base airport for training the Russian aerobatics team, as well as amateur pilots, paratroopers, hang-gliders.
  3. Korobcheevo (Kolomensky district) - the base of the aviation technical club, the place of organization of commercial jumps with a parachute.
  4. Kubinka is a military airfield, where the famous "Russian Knights" and "Swifts" are based.
  5. Malino - a military airport (southeast of the capital) - 206th airborne helicopter base.
  6. Myachkovo (16th km from Moscow Ring Road on Novoryazanskoye Highway) is the location of private aviation clubs of the Federation of Aviation Aviation.
  7. Severka is a sports private airport 73 km from Moscow, where both Russian and foreign planes and helicopters are based.
