Hazing in the Russian Army

Hazing in the army of modern post-Soviet states is a phenomenon that is hard to eradicate. To that promote: continuity of "generations" of employees, low level of culture and other factors. Many defenders of the Fatherland for this reason want to bite from the army, so as not to put their health and psyche in danger. One way to do this is to "smear" someone at the military registration and enlistment office. The sizes of bribes that periodically settle in the pockets of officers range from hundreds to thousands of dollars.

The army of our great Motherland has never been a comfortable place for the rank and file. Even in the time of the kings-fathers, many soldiers deserted because of the strict arbitrariness of officers, unbearable conditions, the stick regime, a huge service life, calculated for recruits for decades. Only in the 1870s the situation in the armed forces of the Russian Empire improved markedly. The service life was reduced, corporal punishment was applied less often, the number of shoots decreased.

In the first decades of the existence of the Soviet state hazing in the army was a rare phenomenon. For her, there was simply no place - disciplinary powers Commanders were broad, and the system of conscription was class. But everything changed already in the mid-fifties. At this time, the army began to call for amnestied, former prisoners. Obviously, this became a major mistake by the leadership of the Armed Forces. Yesterday's convicts brought into the ranks of employees the criminal habits, which they picked up in the zones. There was something that was never in the Soviet Union before. The elder on the call began to beat and oppress the younger, forcing them to perform dirty work for them. Such phenomena in the 50's were rare and occurred mainly in guardhouses. However, in the late fifties all this appeared in the barracks. And in the 60's hazing in the army was already a fact. This was also facilitated by a shortened service life.

Hazing in the army is not just a negative phenomenon. This is a system that has developed over time its traditions, rituals and even a certain folklore. Employees still have an unacknowledged hierarchy. The lowest step in it "Spirits are incorporeal" or "smells" - the guys who have not yet sworn an oath. They are forced to endure various jokes from "old-timers" who experience the moral qualities of newcomers. But I must say that the "smells" are not particularly strained. Usually they are given the opportunity to get comfortable. The next step is actually "spirit". This "rank" is valid for several months after the oath. The main purpose of "spirits" is to serve the "grandfather", performing the most odd work, and also being an object of humor on the part of the latter. The third step is the "elephant". The ritual of transfer to this level is quite simple: "grandfather" beats the soldier several times with a belt on his ass. "Elephants" perform all the same functions as "spirits". The next level is much more honorable - the "skull". The ritual of translation from the "elephants" - the same flogging with a belt, less often is "checking the plywood" - a strong blow to the chest. But the most privileged status is, naturally, "grandfather". The next level is a demobilization, to which "until the order" remains a hundred days. As a result of shortening the service life in some parts, some of the non-statutory titles have sunk into the past. However, we can safely say that the "rank system" as a whole has remained the same.

Hazing in the Russian army has worn nerves for many "spirits" and "elephants". Unfortunately, cases of bullying that have resulted in a loss of health, and even the lives of young soldiers, are not too rare. If you are preparing for the service, then you know that you will need three main qualities: ingenuity, physical strength and resilience of character. Possession of any single combat will not be superfluous for you. Some soldiers immediately flatly refused to be on errands with their grandfathers, and their decision was respected. Other half of the service life did not let the mop out of the hands. Much depends not only on the current system, but also on the person himself. Despite all its shortcomings, a good school of life is the army of Russia. Hazing, which is still there, is not so terrible as it is painted.
