Glystoynonnoe for cats and kittens - the choice and application

What anthelmintic for cats to choose? Everyone who has acquired a kitten faces this problem. Alas, at most forums and in many veterinary hospitals, the answer to this question is the standard: "Buy Drontal." This drug is really popular. Probably, that is why fakes began to appear so often, which at best do not show themselves at all, at worst - the animal has to be treated for poisoning. "Drontal" - a beautiful anthelmintic for cats, and with a wide range of actions, which is very convenient. However, you can buy it only in clinics, veterinarians. This rule applies to all drugs (vitamins, immunostimulants, anthelmintic drugs, shampoos, etc.).

All anthelminthes can be conditionally divided into "ours" (local production, cheaper) and "not ours" (of imported production, more expensive). However, not always a lower price indicates a questionable quality.

On one of the veterinary sites, a survey of cat owners was conducted to determine the rating of the popularity of used anthelmintic. The results of the survey look like this:

  1. Drontal (tablets).
  2. "Profender" (drops, external application).
  3. "Kanikvantel-plus" (tablets).
  4. "Prascicide" (suspension).
  5. "Tsestal-ket" (tablets).
  6. "Prazitel" (suspension, suitable for kittens).
  7. "Stronghold" (drops, external application).
  8. "Tronzil-K" (tablets).
  9. "Pirantel" (suspension, dose -1,2 ml per kg).
  10. "Fegtal" (suspension).

All of the listed drugs are of a helminthic type with a wide spectrum of action, but differ in application. Suspension is considered more convenient, and drops drop in one fell swoop several birds: they will get rid of helminths, and the fleas will be etched, and even a couple of weeks will be protected from re-infection. Glystomonnye tablets for cats are more convenient in dosing. A dozen of these funds are worthy of attention, the choice is yours.

Now about how to give the cat anthelmintic. To begin with, the drug should be rationed strictly by the weight of the animal. Not every vermilion for cats is suitable: take into account both the age of the pet and its condition (it is contraindicated for sick animals).

Drugs in the form of drops (in a pipette usually contains a single dose) are applied strictly on the withers, gently lifting the wool. It is very important that the product is on the skin. The drug begins to act after soaking, so only the correct application can guarantee the result.

In order to "feed" the cat with pills, one needs skill - the animal often behaves inadequately: it twists its head, tightens its teeth, breaks out and can even bite or use its reverent claws.

Some veterinarians advise to crush anthelmintic and, adding to mince, give the animal in the form of a meat delicacy. Well, if this option really goes away. And if your beauty refuses to poison worms voluntarily?

Perhaps, it is necessary to accustom at once the pupil to correct reception of the medicines which are let out in the form of tablets.

By the way, often anthelmintic for cats has a rather unpleasant taste and a very sharp smell, so one day a circled animal on the second deception is no longer bought.

Better, of course, to use a piller, also called a "tablet-maker," and if such an adaptation was not found, you can give a vermifuge without it.

So, take a pill with one hand, another open the animal's jaws, pressing on both sides of the jaws and tilt his head.

Place the pill as deeply as possible (not on the tongue, otherwise vomiting, provoked by the bitterness of the drug, may start). Next, quickly remove the fingers from the jaws and close the cat's teeth, but do not let her lower her head. Stroke her throat until you see a swallowing movement.

Now you can let go of your beauty, pat and give her a piece of goodies (very small). If your actions are always accurate, without causing pain, the cat will eventually accept the taking of medicines as a ritual, and therefore the next time it will not particularly resist.

Giving a pet a suspension is more convenient. The procedure takes only five seconds: maximally raise the animal's head, pull a little cheek, pour the medication into the formed "dimple". Wait for swallowing movements (they usually follow right away). For the procedure, use either a syringe (without a needle) or a special pipette.

Tip: if the cat scratches, you can swaddle it with a thick towel, leaving only the head outside.
