Galapagos whirlpools, fur seals and turtles
The Galapagos whirlpools, described in the well-known film, made the islands of the same name located in the Pacific Ocean even more famous. They got their name from the name of the species of a large sea turtle. By the way, the islands are famous for the huge variety of flora and fauna.
The name "Galapagos Islands" unites nineteen large and small pieces of land in the Pacific Ocean. The whole territory belongs to Ecuador and is declared a national park. There is a large number of long-dead, periodically active and sleeping volcanoes. Under protection is a large number of animals (including elephant and green turtles, sea lions, more than fifteen species of birds). Some fauna representatives live only here.
A feature of the location of the islands is the presence here of five different currents - warm and cold. Mixing them and leads to the fact that there are galapagos swirls. For reference, it should be noted that the collision of even two different temperature currents leads to the appearance of water funnels. And if there are five of them, one can only guess at the power of such whirlpools. However, it should be said that in the world there are large and large water funnels (such as those located near Japan or Norway).
The presence of cool currents on the Galapagos causes the local climate. The average annual temperature on the islands is slightly lower than that typical for these latitudes. It is about twenty-four degrees.
The Galapagos Islands, their animal and plant world have long been studied. At different times, Charles Darwin and Thor Heyerdahl conducted their studies here . Agree that when planning a vacation in the Galapagos Islands, you will certainly want to take a walk in the places where such famous people used to go and think about the texts of their scientific works.
Galapagos whirlpools, local nature, a variety of fish and birds, sea lions and seals, turtles and iguanas attract tourists from all over the world every year. Most of them come here to dive.
