The flag of Honduras currently used differs in a rectangular shape with a rather rare ratio of sides in the proportion of two to one. The cloth is divided horizontally into three strips. They are the same in size. Above and below the stripes are blue and the center is white. In the middle are five stars with five rays. They form a kind of rectangle, one - in its center.

Blue, framing the white strip, denotes the water space of the Pacific and the Caribbean, which wash this country from the west and east. The stars are the states that were once members of the Central American Federation. The naval flag of Honduras almost completely coincides with the official one, the differences consist in a more saturated shade of the extreme blue bands and the fact that in the center there is a coat of arms, and not the image of five five-pointed stars. Such was the cloth, which was used by the state a little earlier, until the middle of the nineteenth century.

The appearance of the symbol

The country proclaimed independence in 1821. Before that, it was a Spanish colony. Having obtained the coveted sovereignty, Honduras began to use the cloth, which along the diagonal left to right and top to bottom covered bands of white, green and red. In the center was a coat of arms. On the white strip there was a green star, on red - white, on green - red. In 1823 the standard was changed to a version very similar to the modern one. The difference was that the center of the coat of arms. In 1839, it was removed and the color of the extreme bands changed a little - it became more saturated. It was this flag that the inhabitants of Honduras enjoyed until 1866. After that, five blue stars formed into a rectangle were placed in the center, and the fields along the edges again returned a lighter blue shade. In this version, the state's cloth is still used today. In 1898, the stars were changed to gold, but in 1949 they were again made white. Since that time the panel has not changed at all.
