Excursus in the history: the origin of the name Kolesnikov

For the full name of citizens in Russia are three words: last name, first name and patronymic. The first is transmitted along the male line and can survive for many generations of the family. You can also understand who the ancestors of the family were, what they did and where they lived.

1. Names for baptism and their forms. As you know, at baptism everyone is given a name from the church calendar, and as there were not enough of them, many had the same names. Surnames were formed in the name given at the baptism: Ivanov, Petrov, etc.

2. Occurred from nicknames. Some people received surnames, formed from nicknames (as they were called by others). There were parents who, in order to protect their children from evil spirits, gave them names with negative meanings: Gryaznov, Neudachin and others. The formation of some of them was influenced by the features of the appearance of the child or the attitude of the parents towards his appearance.

3. Surnames, formed from the type of activity. By such surnames you can find out who your distant ancestors were. This principle is due to the origin of such names as Kolesnikov, Plotnikov, Goncharov, Kuznetsov and many others.

4. Surnames by place of origin. To a person, she was assigned at the place of his birth or residence: Khovansky, Litvinov, Kievsky and others. If you have such a name, you can know exactly where your ancestors lived. Usually, according to this principle, the names were given to representatives of noble families.

5. Artificial. Such people were most often associated with the church. Before the revolution, everyone who came to study in the clergy gave new names. Historians managed to find the first mention of the origin of the name Kolesnikov. They date back to 1610 year. Kondrashko Kolesnikov is the first one about which there are official records. The Sagittarius from Smolensk was honored with such an honor due to his extraordinary courage. Then other mentions began to appear. Record of Ivan Kolesnikov - in 1624.

The first Kolesnikov belongs to the well-known explorer of the Baikal region, Kolesnikov Vasily Ivanovich, whose records date back to 1632.

After this, the name Kolesnikov is becoming more popular, and the mention of her began to appear more often in all corners of the Russian Empire. Therefore, scholars and historians give an unambiguous conclusion that the Kolesnikovs are namesakes, and not the ancestors of one person.
