Currency of Finland. How did the euro in the state

In 2012, Finland was named the most stable country in the world. In June of the same year, the agency Fitch Ratings gave this state the highest rating for loans. Finland is also considered one of the least corrupt countries in Europe. The currency of Finland today is the euro. But it was not always so!

The name of this state comes from the word "Finland", which is translated from the Swedish "Land of the Finns". In ancient times, wild tribes of hunters and gatherers lived on the territory of the country. Agriculture was also. However, there is no information on the general state government at that time. Starting around 1150 AD, from the famous Viking Age, Finland lives under the rule of Sweden. Under the "wing" of the Russian crown Finland fell in 1809 as a result of victories in the war against England and its ally, Sweden. But, interestingly, the Emperor Alexander the First preserved the effect of the former Swedish laws in the country, which operated before the war, intact, than he supported stability in the Grand Duchy of Finland. The following years are marked by the stability and flourishing of the national culture.

The turbulent revolutionary events and the collapse of the Russian Empire in 1917 enabled the country to gain independence. The Finnish Senate unilaterally adopted the Declaration of Independence of Finland, a few days later it was officially recognized and confirmed by the Soviet government. Then a civil war broke out in Finland, which developed into the first Soviet-Finnish conflict. Later, in 1921, there was another Soviet-Finnish war. In 1922, a peace agreement was signed. These first two armed conflicts began on the initiative of the Finnish side. In 1939, the third Soviet-Finnish war began (this time at the initiative of the Soviet Union). In the summer of 1944, the Finns agreed to make peace and began a struggle against Hitler. In 1956, Urho Kalevo Kekkonen became the president. 25 years of his leadership were distinguished by wisdom and thoughtfulness. He managed to improve relations with the countries of Scandinavia, maintaining a partnership with the Soviet Union. At the time of the collapse of the USSR, there was also a difficult period in the country. In 1995 Finland joined the European Union.

It turns out that the history of the country is quite interesting. It is clear that all the ups and downs had an impact on the state's foreign exchange market. We do not know what currency was in Finland before the beginning of the 12th century AD, but since the Swedish conquest, the currency of this country has been used. The first paper money was Swedish riksdalers (thalers). In 1873, together with Denmark and Norway, a monetary union was established. For the circulation of money was introduced the Swedish krone.

Since 1809, when the country became part of the Russian Empire, the new currency in Finland is the Russian ruble. In 1812 the Bank of Finland was founded. Since 1860, the country has received the right to print its own currency. The name was chosen by analogy with the German stamp. Now the national currency is the Finnish brand.

First, the Finnish brand was established a fixed ratio to the ruble. In 1865 this binding was abandoned. In accordance with the terms of the Latin Union set a silver standard. But he did not last long. In 1878, a fixed gold content of the Swedish brand was established.

In 1917, as already mentioned, the country gained independence. These were difficult times, many countries abandoned the gold standard, but Finland adhered to it until 1940. In 1948, the country became a party to the Bretton Woods Agreement. Now the Finnish currency has a fixed peg to the US dollar. In 1963 the currency of Finland was denominated 100 times. After the collapse of the Bretton Woods system (in 1967), a multicurrency basket was used for the quotation.

In 1995 the country became a member of the EU. In 2002 the transition to a new currency took place. Now the euro is the new currency of Finland.

If you are going to visit this country, remember that it is profitable to change the currency in the bank. To do this, you will need to present your ID. On the territory of the country, the use of credit cards is widespread, it is possible to pay off this way almost everywhere. Approximate prices are as follows: rye bread costs 1.7 euros, apples - 1.5 euros, coca-cola (0.5 liters) - 1.5 euros, a double room at the hotel - 50 euros per day.

Today the country of thousands of lakes is an economically developed and very stable state with excellent economic indicators. Consequently, the currency of Finland can be considered as suitable for keeping savings.
