Church of the Nativity in Kollontai: history, schedule, address

Peter is a city of impeccable beauty, pleasing its residents and guests with samples of magnificent architecture. Among other things, this is also true of many churches in the northern capital. For example, one of the most beautiful Orthodox churches in St. Petersburg is the Church of the Nativity of Christ at Kollontai. About him and will be discussed below.

History of church construction

This temple is quite young and is located in a place where historically there was no cult structure. In September 2002, on the spot where the church stands, a policeman died while performing his duties. In memory of him, the place was chosen as the initiative group, which lobbied the idea of building the church since 2001.

In early December 2002, the faithful appealed to Metropolitan Vladimir, Governor of the St. Petersburg Department, with a petition to appoint Oleg Zhavoronkov as rector of the parish priest to the newly formed parish. In February-March the application was granted. Simultaneously with the petition at the site of the future church, a cross was installed. A formal registration of the parish took place on March 12, 2002. Originally for the parish a wooden temporary church was built in which one could perform worship services while the stone church of the Nativity of Christ at Kollontai is under construction. In November 2003, this chapel was consecrated by the priestly rank, and since then regular worship services have been performed there. In August 2004, concrete was poured into the foundation of the future temple. Concrete at the same time was involved in holy water, taken from 24 sources. And the foundation itself was embedded with stones and soil from sacred for Orthodox believers: Sinai Mountain, Jerusalem, Athos, Bethlehem and a number of pilgrim centers of Russia.

The Church of the Nativity of Christ was laid on Kollontai in 2005. The construction was led by the architect A. M. Lebedev. And already in 2006, the nakupolnye crosses were consecrated and hoisted, and bells were hung on the church bell tower. St. Sophia Cathedral in Novgorod was taken as the basis of the temple . The five-domed Church of the Nativity with Byzantine domes earned her the fame of the St. Petersburg Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The Byzantine architectural style in the Russian church architecture is a rather rare phenomenon.

Description of the temple

The Christmas Church has four altars at once. Central, as the name implies, is dedicated to the Christmas holiday. The northern side-chapel is consecrated, as is the temporary wooden chapel, in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "Wipe My Sorrows". The southern side-chapel has its patron Saint George the Victorious. And one more Vsesvjatsky throne is located in the baptismal temple on the ground floor.

Beginning of Divine Services

The first consecration of the church by the priestly rank took place in 2008 in early January. At the same time, the first Liturgy was performed in it. Over the next few years, work continued on the decoration of the temple and its ennobling. In particular, in all chapels were installed iconostases, in the nave of the church carved kioty were installed, icons were painted.
