Bride stealing, or How to spend this rite fun?

However, earlier theft of brides in the Caucasus was not just a beautiful and bright tradition of wedding rituals. It was one of the forms of legal marriage. A young man, having fallen in love with a girl, could simply steal her from home with her servants or friends and bring them to her. If she spent the night in his house, it was believed that they were already legal spouses. In this case, the girl no longer had a chance to marry someone else.
