Angel Castiel, "Supernatural." Characteristics of the character and photo

For eleven years in a row, without losing its popularity, the American television channel The CW broadcasts a mystical series about two brothers-hunters for evil spirits, Sam and Dean Winchesters. For a long time only these two characters were the protagonists, until they had an angelic ally, so fond of fans that the creators of the TV show decided to translate it into the main part of the series "Supernatural". In which season Castiel appeared, few people think, because this character has become an important and integral part of the story. And for many seasons he changed and developed, revealing to the audience the most diverse traits of his character and his essence.

At the dawn of time

What is the prehistory of the hero in the series "Supernatural"? Angel Castiel is absent from the official Christian mythology, therefore his image is the fruit of creativity of the creators of the series. According to the plot, there is no exact information about the beginning of his angelic path, presumably God created Castiel long before the first people. The show mentions that the hero remembers how the first fish came to the land, he witnessed the construction of the Tower of Babel and saw Abel and Cain, but before the events described in the series he did not descend to Earth.

Vessel for the Divine Essence

In order to introduce Christian themes into the plot, the main inspirer of the project, Eric Kripke, decided to create a new character, an angel named Castiel. "Supernatural" gives viewers their own idea of how the heavenly creatures can look. According to the mythology of the show, mere mortals are not allowed to see the true face of the angel and hear his voice, for they can lose their hearing and sight. Therefore, on Earth there are special people who can become a temporary receptacle for the gods, they are called "vessels". And for each of the divine creatures there are only a few such specific people, because only their chosen ones can withstand their essence. An angel can enter into such a "vessel" only with the consent of the person himself. For Castiel, Jimmy Nowak, a devout Christian and an exemplary family man, became such a receptacle. His wife and daughter did not believe that the angel of the Lord spoke with the head of the family, and Jimmy agreed to the introduction of an angel in exchange for the protection of his family.

Appearance

To maintain the intrigue of Eric Kripke did not indicate the casting of a real role, and actor Misha Collins sampled as a demon. Imagine his surprise when he found out that he had to play an angel named Castiel! "Supernatural" is famous for its remarkable selection of actors, so this time the creators of the show did not fail. Amazing blue eyes, slightly sleeked dark hair, detached eyes and a kind of "out of this world" - these characteristics of the American actor conquered millions of fan hearts all over the world. But the corporate image of the angel in the form of a bright cloak with an unchanged white shirt and carelessly tied a tie was taken from the comic books about John Constantine.

In which series of "Supernatural" appears Castiel?

For the first time the audience got acquainted with the new character at the beginning of the fourth season. In the premiere episode, it was this angel who was able to pull the older brother of Winchester out of the confinement in Hell, leaving the last burn on his shoulder in the form of a palm. After an unsuccessful attempt to capture an unknown creature that saved Dean, Castiel reveals to him his essence and tells about the future liberation of Lucifer. But the wayward Winchester refuses to cooperate with his savior, but afterwards they all begin to work together. Despite his beliefs to obey orders from heaven, the angel under the influence of Dean becomes more human. Unlike other divine creatures, Kas (as the elder Winchester likes to call him) believed in Dean's supreme destiny and sided with the brothers, helping them fight evil, and opposed Uriel and other higher heavenly creatures.

From the background to the main

Angelic character was originally conceived by the creators as temporary, but admirers of the series incredibly liked Castiel. "Supernatural" returned to the screens in the fifth season with the heavenly messenger already in the main lineup. Because of his rebellion against his fellows in the heavens, he was an exile with exhausting forces and went in search of God. In his search he finds only disappointment and becomes even closer to people. Absolutely naive and almost impassive in the first season, Kas more and more understands human emotions, falls into a rage, rejoices, learning new sides of happiness and grief. His unshakable faith in the heavenly ideals has failed, and he experiences frustration and even makes mistakes. In the subsequent seasons of the series "Supernatural" series with Castiel are often imbued with moral torment, they are emotionally saturated, because Misha Collins perfectly conveys an incredible range of feelings of an angel, lost hope and regaining the meaning of existence.

Character Development

Without the best friend and partner of Dean Winchester, who has a heavenly origin, it is simply impossible to imagine the series "Supernatural". When Castiel appears, any episode becomes atmospheric. He fills and complements the life of the Winchester brothers, and is an absolutely positive character capable of an incredible self-sacrifice. And this despite some of his mistakes and mistakes, especially in the sixth season, such as a deal with the demon Crowley or confidence in his own divinity. These moments became a turning point in the development of the personality of the rebellious angel, because for any of his mistakes Cas was doubly paid. He tries not to burden Dean and Sam with his problems, tries to cope with them alone, which, however, often leads to a worsening of the situation. But this is the angel - Castiel. "Supernatural" showed viewers how diverse the celestial creatures can be: both cunning, and insidious, and cruel, but also sincere, kind, sacrificial and naive, like Kas.
