Ambivert is a golden mean or a concept invented by scientists?

The parameters of introversion-extraversion have become widespread in psychological science in the process of research and categorization of personality types and their characteristics. Ambivert is a concept that corresponds to the middle on the EE line. Carl Gustav Jung and Hans Jürgen Eysenck were involved in developing this phenomenon, which had slightly different views on this issue.

K.G. Jung and his theory of introversion-extraversion

Based on this classification, the psychoanalyst placed such a criterion as the orientation of the individual's libido. If energy is released into the external environment, extraversion is manifested, therefore such a person adores social and practical life and does not like immersion in an imaginary inner world, the realm of reflection. If the libido is directed inwards, then introversion is manifested, which means the desire to represent, reflect, do various imaginary, and not real operations with objects of the external world. And ambivert - who is this? This parameter occupies an intermediate position.

K.G. Jung argued that there are no pure types, so ambivert is a perfectly normal state of the individual. The scientist compared these categories to the beating of the heart: alternations between systole (contraction) - introversion - and diastole (relaxation) - extraversion. But mostly a person adheres to a single parameter and acts within it.

Nobody says that one of the types is good, and the other is bad. Each has its negative and positive qualities. It happens that an individual in a stressful situation changes his behavior. The best option is ambivert. The characteristic features of both parameters are combined in one person. This makes it flexible, capable of reacting differently depending on the situation and the relevance of one or another method.

For introvert it is peculiar to be interested only in your thoughts, inner experiences. They are in their own world, in which they are well, but this is fraught with the loss of contact with reality. A vivid example is the scattered scientist.

Extroverts are characterized by a special inclusion in the world of things. They have good contact with reality, are interested in what is happening in society. Alienation of the internal environment is about them. The world influences introverts, and it, in turn, is influenced by extroverts.

Change of views of K.G. cabin boy

Time passed, science did not stand still, and scientist K.G. Jung changed a little and improved his views. In addition, he said that ambibert is the most adaptive type, because it has both extrovert and introvert properties. Also, the psychoanalyst developed the doctrine of the psychological functions that make up the EE, namely, about thinking, feeling, feeling and intuition.

G.Yu. Eysenck and his theory of introversion-extraversion

G. Yu. Aizenk borrowed the above concepts from K.G. Jung, but filled them with a different meaning. For a scientist, these are the two poles of one superfactor, which is defined as a complex of correlating personality traits and has a genetic determination.

Typical features of the extrovert are sociability, optimism, impulsiveness, a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, not very strong control over emotional experiences. Typical introvert is characterized by shyness, remoteness from other people, except relatives, planning their actions, calmness, love of order, control over feelings.

Ambivert is a person who has an unclear expression of the features of the two parameters described above. If you use a test, then such an individual gains an average score. But all the same ambivert can be inclined either to extraversion, or to introversion.

The views of K. Leonhard

Psychiatrist C. Leonhard rethought the concept introduced by CG Jung in his own way, and believed that extraversion was characterized by lack of will, susceptibility to influence from outside, and introversion was a strong will.

But it should be remembered that the classification of this scientist refers to the pathological manifestations of personality.
