"Gentomycin" instructions for use characterize as an antibiotic agent in the form of a white ointment with a yellowish (or pure white) hue. The active ingredient is gentamicin sulfate. Excipients: white petrolatum, paraffin. The drug is prescribed for external use.

The aminoglycoside antibiotic, which is part of the preparation, penetrates into the mucous membranes and the skin badly enough, as a result of which the resorptive effect is practically not obtained. With a single application, the duration of therapeutic effectiveness is maintained for eight to twelve hours. Thus, the drug is allowed to apply once or twice to knocking, regardless of the nature and course of the pathology, the severity of the damage.

The drug is prescribed for local therapy of wounds in the second stage of the process in surgery to prevent purulent consequences, in combobustology (burn medicine), with frostbite. The medication is indicated for use in dermatology for skin infections of an infectious nature (superficial folliculitis, pyoderma, dermatitis, furunculosis, ulcers, eczema, acne) caused by microbes that show sensitivity to the drug.

"Gentomycin" instruction allows you to use with domestic injuries to eliminate small scratches and wounds, swelling, with wounds containing purulent necrotic masses.

The preparation is intended for external topical application. Ointment is applied after standard treatment directly on the damaged surface. On top fix a sterile gauze bandage. It is allowed to apply the ointment first to the bandage, and then to the wound.

When treating burns, the drug is used twice or thrice a week. When treating wounds, ointment is applied daily 2-3 times daily. The dosage is determined by the area of the affected surface. In the treatment of extensive burns, the amount of the drug per day is not more than 200 mg of the antibiotic. The duration of application is determined by the dynamics of the healing of lesions, severity, and the form of pathology. Typically, the duration of use - from seven to fourteen days.

The use of dermatological pathology involves the daily use of the drug. "Gentomycin" instructions for use recommends applying to the affected area with a thin layer in knocks 2-3 times or on a gauze dressing with the application on the problem area. In the presence of exudate on erosions and ulcers, preliminary washing (disinfecting treatment) is carried out with hydrogen peroxide, furacilin or boric acid.

The drug is contraindicated in the first stage of the wound process, with hypersensitivity.

It is not recommended to use ointment for a long time in a large area in connection with the probability of development of resorptive effect. This, in turn, is unsafe for patients with renal insufficiency.
